My second story with a little more depth, just as I said. Featuring one of my new favorite characters: Sunset Shimmer

Sunset and Celestia reconciled many months ago, upon the former's return to Canterlot. Despite this, Sunset can't help but feel nervous as today is a special day: Mother's day.

A late Mother's day fic.

Sunset Shimmer has grown and changed from who she was. For a long time she's kept to her own path through life in the human world and kept her silence from across the rift that separates her from Princess Celestia.

But there's something important to say and a lot of healing still left to do.

It's time they talked again.

Sunset Shimmer and Princess Celestia start having a little conversation as they watch the sunset go by.

This was just a little story I made for Sunset Shimmer Day as tribute to my favorite bacon-haired girl.

(A few days late but whatever)

Sunset Shimmer has been forced by Twilight Sparkle to return to the pony world for a visit. When she returns she finds out something that will shock everyone. Including her.

I can't be the only one who thought they HAD to be related. I just can't. It's obvious.

Years spent learning and sacrificing. Years spent turning down friendship. Sunset gave up everything. That was ok though. She was willing to be strong and make those sacrifices. She had to be. Sunset was Princess Celestia's star pupil and was destined for great things. Her faith in Celestia and her future at her side burned brighter than the sun... or at least it did...

The books in the libraries forbidden section revealed much. They revealed that everything she had strived for was and has been in reach for years. They revealed just how easy obtaining her goals were. Worst of all they revealed that Celestia had kept her from rising. Nothing could have hurt her worse...

Hearth's Warming. A time to celebrate love. Family. Friendship. To come together and reaffirm bonds.

But for the mare at the top, an immortal whose only living family has been sealed within the moon for over nine and a half centuries, who commands too much awe and respect to have many, if any, true friends...its long been a reminder of what she's lost.

This year though, things have changed. A bright eyed little filly, an excuse to avoid the overdone public productions, and Princess Celestia finds herself with a holiday whose events bring her joy, a joy she would dearly love to share with her sister.

Unable to talk to her directly, Celestia falls back on something she's good at:

Writing a letter.

A Holiday Sidestory in the same universe as my main story, Cross the Rubicon...and all my stories, really, this is a Christmas gift for my readers who are a bunch of amazing people!

Every character has a past, and sometimes, the past is a complicated, messy thing, full of good and bad, of defining moments, of broken relationships, of events that make a person think back and laugh...or even cry. Who we are now is because of all the little moments that have come before, the memories that shaped us.

So what shaped Sunset Shimmer? Who was she before?

More than that, what shaped her relationship with Princess Celestia? What made it fail?

Was it all Sunset's fault? Or was the Princess responsible? Or was the truth something far more complex than simple blame?

Maybe a trip down Memory Lane will have the answers...

Or maybe it will just raise more questions...

Yet another story that takes place in the same universe as my primary story "Cross the Rubicon", this is merely the beginning to what will become a sort of companion piece to a sidestory called "Supernova" that is in the works.
