Shining Armor and Princess Cadance had been having little trouble keeping their alicorn foal's magic under control, and they'd been fortunate enough thus far in having at least one parent always by Flurry Heart's side should the enchantment ever wear off somehow, just in case. There would soon come a time, though, when both Cadance and Shining Armor would have no other choice but to be away from the Crystal Empire at the same time. Because of this, they would need to find Princess Flurry Heart a babysitter as soon as possible.
There is only one way of determining who gets the honor of such a title, and Trixie is unlucky enough to be selected by the crystal heart itself.
While helping Trixie clean out her wagon, Starlight finds a dusty old magic kit that makes her ask a question she hadn't really thought of before, "How did you become a magician?" And so our tale goes back to long before Trixie was Great and Powerful... back when she was simply a teenage babysitter trying to earn a few extra bits.

Starlight Glimmer runs out of coffee.
Equestria may never recover.
Pre-read by Daemon of Decay.
It's the magical discovery of the millennium! Using a series of magical techniques devised by Starlight for leveraging limited magical power for greater effect, and a theory that Twilight quietly snuck out of the Forbidden Section with, a spell has been developed that can reverse Death itself!
There's just one problem: Ponyville doesn't exactly have a reputation for murders. They've tested the spell on a mouse, sure, but they've yet to find a dead pony who fits the requirements for the spell.
So Glimmer suggests that they make a dead pony. And, after racking their brains for a while, there's only one pony that both of them would willingly murder.
