For many years there has been a mysterious creature living in the woods. Many rumors have spread about this creature. Some say its capable of killing anything it puts its mind on, even predators many times its size. A very strange creature that nopony had ever encountered face to face. That was, until now.

This story is a sequel to Aegis of the Hive

Natural selection. It is the byword of every changeling queen who has ever lived. The chief resource that has always curbed the hives' growth used to be love. Now though, with Queen Twilight Sparkle's bloodline capable of producing love on their own, the old guard of changeling morality has seen fit to acquire this ability for the next generation before removing all of their future royal daughters' competitors.

Some queens are far closer to this goal than others.

After being defeated by Cadence and Shining Armor, Chrysalis was stripped of her newfound strength and completely starved of food. She awakens in a strange room bound to a bed by several casts and bandages. A young colt found her near his home and tends to her while she recovers, each day bringing them closer and closer.

Can the Queen of Changelings even have true feelings of love, or is she just kidding herself?

In her quest to eliminate all chaos, the one now known as the Empress of Harmony established her rule. With the essence of her friends removed, only those she deems pure are permitted to live under her watchful care.

Order and Chaos are divided, those who support Twilight in her noble goal versus those who oppose her.

Harmony is the greatest good, as the Empress Twilight Sparkle insisted. But can Harmony really exist if the bearer of Magic has become disillusioned between justice and vengeance?

Cadance isn't Sombra. But Sombra's leadership is all the crystal ponies remember, a ruler they had to love at all costs, with the final payment being their own lives. And as they gradually come to see their new Princess as leader instead of savior, too much of that residual fear is being transferred to her. They praise her, adore her, refuse to correct her no matter what she does -- because they live in terror of the consequences for doing anything else.
