The last day of school has all but come and gone. Rainbow and the others have left to prepare the holidays with their families, leaving Sunset all by herself. Ready to spend another Christmas alone, Sunset exits CHS only to be greeted by a familiar face. Someone that comes bearing a gift Sunset never thought she'd receive.

In fact, it might just be the most important gift of Sunset's life.

This story is a sequel to Sunset's Despair

Sunset Shimmer continues to feel depressed and won't admit it to anyone. However, Twilight Sparkle begins to take notice of Sunset's unusual behavior. Not knowing what to do, she and her friends try to figure out how to help their troubled friend.

Can Sunset admit she needs help?

We all know Scootaloo’s tough, that she’s cheerful, and positive, and a generally good, friendly mare.

But even Scootaloo’s capable of falling apart, with the right words; the wrong words. And she heard those words. You’ll never fly.

Now, Rainbow Dash just has to figure out if she’s capable of being put together again.

Twilight Sparkle had climbed to her peak. She had ascended to godhood, seized reign of Equestria.

As Fluttershy shows Discord her first gray hair, he realizes that his beloved friend is getting older and offers her the ultimate gift.

Sunset feels she should return home, to Equestria, to set things right between herself and Celestia. Only every time she starts to go through the portal, she chickens out and can't do it. She constantly admits her fears to her new friends, and writes about it to Twilight. They have all finally convinced her to return.

What awaits her...is not what she expected.

In the aftermath of the Fall Formal, Sunset Shimmer has fallen. Her power in Canterlot High is gone, and she's been exposed for the monster that she is. With nowhere else to go and nothing she can do, she retreats to where she's hidden herself since arriving in the human world, a realm that links Canterlot High and Equestria. But she isn't the only one to know about this realm, on either side, and perhaps with a little help from her new friends and her old mentor, she can find it in her to rise again.
