Persona_non_grata

Weeeelp, lets do this. Unto ash and ruin, forward... ponies, I guess.

didn't custodes immediately open fire on Magnus when he came thru, and because his form was engulfed with flames making a light sou bright that it blinded mortals looking at him. All the while generators were exploding killing humans left and right while klaxons whine.

10017667
Pretty close: Thousand Sons said that the Custodes were 'at arms' when the alarms went off, but never said anything about opening fire. That was at the initial Warp Rift in the genetics lab when 'they' stole the primarchs. They just kinda saw Magnus (or what they saw of him, rather than what he saw of himself) and that was kinda it. Magnus blanks it, realizes what happens, aaaaand left without telling the Emperor what happened.

For such a surprisingly important event, it's scary short with like 4 lines total, and I can't repeat it verbatim because, well, plagiarism :raritywink:. Plus, I kinda wanted to add just a small little addition that'll be important in the future... it also toys with the Master of Mankind (and kinda Vengeful Spirit) ethos that the Emperor appears as the people around him want him to appear (Arkhan Land, etc).

10017689
Ahh okay i was just using "master of mankind" books prologue as a viewpoint. When Magnus described it as "- Sirens, sirens howled on and on. Warriors of the ten thousands clad in gold and ringing their king, shouted and fired skywards. their incendiary rounds dissolved within his towering form. Their rage coming to nothing, even the custodiands did not know him. But he knew them by name. There was Constantine Valdor, There was Ra Indimian, there was Eimon Taramagian. And yet they leveled their spears at him and opened fire."

10017702
Aye, that's entirely fair. I have a very love/hate relationship with Master of Mankind as a book (Zaphon and Land make it for me). Thousand Sons is nicely cleaner in a way, less that has to be adhered too which means less problems even if I'm constrained by a lot less going forward. Part of the reason I picked it is it's nice and open

Weirdly, Thousand Sons mentions that the only real weapons were the automated systems literally referred to as 'Gunboxes' that spooled up and then just kinda, well did nothing as he pulled himself through the portal and blew out most of the machines. The custodes were also just 'custodian guard', Valdor was mentioned quite a few times in the text, but pointedly, not there. Not that it will have much of a difference. He'll be getting his due later on.

10017710
Yea its not one of the best books, Thou Arkhan Land was too my favorite with that blood angel captain. In that book it described The Emperor as kinda of a ass. I mean like that time when emperor is like " Hey Ra do you remember all the good things i told you about humanity and its potential future?
Ra: Yea?
Emperor: Good ( impales him with a demon sword)
Me: WTF man?

10017730
Oh man, don't I know it. ADB is a pretty good author but Master of Mankind is very much that genesis of the Emperor flitting with a personality of a tone-deaf sociopath. I mean, some of the earlier excerpts even from Rogue Trader weren't exactly nice (he is a warlord) but Master of Mankind had a few very distinct moments that got a brow raise. What's utterly bizarre to me is that he did a great job with likeable Custodes in First Heretic, but the custodian guard of the palace and Tribunes all seem to be completely unsympathetic.

Though it does lead to Captain Zephon and Diocletian dealing with the refugee child. And after possibly the most human and, frankly, cozy interaction of most of the series, we get:
Zephon: "You said I disappointed you when we first met, Custodian?"
Diocletian: "Yes."
Zephon: "Rest assured, the feeling's mutual."

That tree...that was the Tree of Harmony, wasn't it.
And the brief flash of an 8 branch weed...the Four have set their sights on Equestria, haven't they...

10017730
There's no 'kinda' about it. The Emperor's just an ass. ( Insert Heresy comments here :trollestia: )

i.pinimg.com/564x/fe/64/7d/fe647d8788a1f7f443c00585175acb75.jpg
Yea, but in that book he is more than usual.
By the way did you get your orks on christmas ?

10018484
Yeah, but alas I had to endure a working holiday and couldn't find time to fiddle with them. It'll be after I graduate from my Trade School before I can find time. But I also got my mother Eldar Guardians and my step-father Tau Pathfinders and I finished Konrad Curze's Primarch book and am a fourth of the way through Jaghatai's.

Luna seems .... different... I think Horus has rubbed off on her a lot more since we last saw her... glory to unintended mental influences caused by smooch induced symbiotic links otherwise known as UMICSISL

10018371
Oooooh maaaaaybe, Diclonius my dude, maaaybe. Lets just say some external parties have recently been made aware of circumstances which were previously unconsidered and, as all corporate entities do, have to perform their due diligence :raritywink:*. You definitely are right when it comes to the Emps... while he has moments of really self-aware dialogue, and even some moments of true greatness (The Board is Set comes to mind as one of my favourites) Master of Mankind along with The Last Church really ratcheted up that 'The Emperor is a total jackass' sentiment.

Congrats on the Orks (and trade school too for that matter, a Uni degree has been... a piece of paper for me, -laughs- but personally worthwhile). Might be a bit of a race to see if I can get some of 'em finished first. Though I've got a legion's worth of marines to do before then.

10018484
Niiice Warpsmith, very nice :rainbowlaugh:. That sums it up pretty friggin' well.

10018909
FADM Nova my dude, I may have to put that down in my lexicon, it's kinda a too-perfect acronym that feels like the topic of a Princess Twiggles thesis paper. And, well, nicely caught -smirks- the Lupercal is one to make an impression after all.

*short answer, yeeeeeeezz.

Yeah not sure why I haven’t been getting notification about this story

10026532
eh no worries my dude. Honestly it's been a bit glitchy to the point I'm kinda tempted to just fold it all in with Gambit and go for 1 mil while split into separate 'books'.

That way I can even add in novellas and side-stories chronologically without it getting wonky (and keeps the order laid out if there's more than 2 books (which I bloody hope there will be)

Love ta hear some thoughts on that little bit of an 'organizational/administrative' change.

Ow shit this is going to be good. Also Moondancer is mvp of this chapter dam I love her in this series so much and then we have bacon horse my fav food colored horse. But yeah together there awesome and may be the only chance Luna has not to go over board like it looks she may be.

10026561
Ok just caught up an yeah holly shit that ending, what’s Horus going to do now that the brother that at least tried to help him is being Takin in.

Also yeah is don’t know about combining. I mean it makes sense and would keep things nearer but it might be kind of hard for some people to follow. Maybe if there was an index in the discription that might work. Then again separate books seems just easier, although notifications have been glitchy recently.

Man, I hope Horus shows Leman who real wolves are.

MAGNUS DID NOTHING WRONG!!! :flutterrage: :flutterrage:

10026875
Horus: "Leman I'd like to have a word with you concerning Magnus"
Leman: "...."
20 minutes later both exit the room with a black eye each and covered in cuts and bruises
Horus: "good talk..."

10026875
Well considering that Russ did technically win Horus in one of the books by spearing him with emperors given spear. Only to Russ hesitate to kill him switch then Horus punched Russ unconscious . And when Horus tried to kill Russ, all the space wolves swarmed Horus by just throwing themselves at him. Horus could not get thru to Russ all the while Russ was dragged to safety.
Russ and Horus did not have a best relationship, because Horus saw him as a savage during their first ever meeting when Russ was found.

10027554
Russ didn't technically win he just hesitated to kill horus.

10026561
Gotta a question for you.
When a writer make stories where a pony falls in love with a human does it sound better when the pony is in normal form or in anthro form?

10030937
Well considering that the emperors spear that Russ used in the book "wolfbane" will reveal a truth to anyone ho is struck by it. When Russ did spear thru Horus he did not know if Horus was corrupted by chaos or did everything by his own volition. Sou if he truly wanted to kill Horus he could have done that. He even argued with Lokan that he could win Angron and Horus in a duel. And one that he could lose would be Sanquinius. But he was not sure what had come of Horus when he was corrupted when Lokan said that Horus was more powerful than during the crusade. Hell i can even find that direct quotation if you wand.

10026754
Hah, welcome back my dude. Yeah, it's definitely gonna be a thing, after all, Horus had some plans and these were not them :facehoof: Well, we all know stage 1 of grief.

I'm still pretty divided on combining it or not, I'm more worried about novellas and little bits I wanted to do having no context or being lost, but I guess I could just add them in at the end of existing books.

10026875
Heh, Magus definitely had a feeeeeeew issues but Leman, well, Leman has more. It'll be fun. (admittedly some of the newer stuff has really muddied the point of Prospero as of late, and how the likes of Valdor and Russ handled it going in to the point that it flips their 'roles').

10027081
Niiiiice my dude, very nice. Definitely the Primarch Resolution system at work :trollestia:

10027554
Aye, Wolfsbane did exactly that. Horus and Russ are probably two of the closest matched combatants too, and neither exactly got out with glowing reviews about their performance. Horus never did see past the Wolf King's 'savage mask' but admittedly, Russ seemed to settle into it more and more as time went on. Aye, I do remember Russ saying that Sanguinius and Horus was definitely a match, much like Sanguinius and Angron were a match. Ah the Red Angel and the Great Angel.

10031124
Sure thing, my dude. Lets see: personally, when it comes to stories with a pony falling in love with a human, I like it being distinctly pony. I'm not saying I'm against anthro at all, but I like the notion of working through the physical and social dissimilarity and emerging with a more personalized view about the individual that has transcended just a physical form. It feels more rewarding. There's the physical boundaries and social boundaries; knowing full well that it's a taboo that likely won't have a quick and easy resolution when that revelation comes to light. I've always been a fan of it, and letting it follow some of the ideas of Stranger in a Strange Land or Enemy Mine, exploring the differences and the more deep seated reasons for the affection, thus making the individuals more committed to their decisions. Thus, it means all the more in the end. There's just more room for the exploration of values and connections between individuals rather than some superficial cloppy bits. Calling an affirmation of genuine affection rather than a type of transference.

10032191
Even after all this am pretty sure Horus still wouldn’t be able to see past Russ mask but the main difference is that Horus is not alone anymore. So I wondering if Luna can see behind the savage Kings mask, she seems a bit better at seeing past what people put up.

10032532
Horus gets to see Russ (and his legion) in the context of how he acts on behalf of their father, thus Russ is competition. The sliiiightly younger (found relatively early on after Horus) somewhat mad 'jock' brother with a lot to prove and the arrogance to try and be his father's favourite. He leads around his little band of self-entitled miscreants bent on being straight up savage, aggressive dolts compared to his own ruthless and relentless warrior elite.

Luna just gets to wonder if he's a pretty dumb blond or not, it's a little less baggage :trollestia:

Today's chapter brought to you by Pit Ponies, a frighteningly archaic tradition that lasted until the 1970's in my country and the 1990's in Britain... Work horses in mines. A surprisingly recent part of our heritage.

Well this should get interesting, I can only imagine the future fall out when Luna get discovered.- not to mention the question of Magnus is confirmed. Along with the seemingly splintering of the wolves and the fact that the imperium is getting closer to equis. Ow boy shits getting real and right as things start to intensify is about when ping chaos comes in to stir the pot and make everything so much worse.

10034310
-laughs- you definitely got that right, my dude! After all, the threats for someone like the Warmaster isn't the known threats, or the known unknowns... it's the unknown unknowns. And while he picked up on a few of the problems, Chaos is a fickle foe. As fickle as Horus is stubborn, perhaps.

Gonna be more of it. After all, the Wolves are loyal, but loyal to who and what has always been the question, eh?

“We have faith that Horus could stop the lesser, We could thwart the greater.”

Uh, did you misprint that?

Also, Twilight's school just got shut down? Implying that this is the beginning of season 8. Implying that Cozy Glow is still at large...implying the chance of her being influenced by something other than Tirek.

10041451
Luna's got a bit of pride and a touch of an ego after she may have 'solved' the problem in Gambit.... She wouldn't say it around Horus in person, but she'll posture a little in front of her 'minions' as, of herself and Horus, she does kinda consider herself more the 'expert' against dark spirits which she considers the bigger threat. She miiiight have a bit to learn and actually internalize.

And yep, that it did. It never did get up and running by this point, so it's an empty building without even an official stamp of approval. And that is absolutely right, Cozy may have been enrolled but the whole thing fell through so she's very much still out there. As are the rest of the villain dream team :raritywink:

10041714
Well, I suppose the application of the Elements could foil the Ruinous Powers. But they'd need a lot more power as Harmony, like the Primordial Annihilator, is powered by the belief of her worshippers. (And yes, this is the plot point of the Grimdark 6)

10041728
Exactly. But the effects of harmony are also about as mutable as chaos in certain respects: it's not gonna brainwash someone to be 'good' after all, but it could start to eat at someone around the edges. At best, you might get a Spear of Russ (Dionysian spear) effect, or turn then to stone, etc. Chaos is powered by belief and emotion, turbulence, etc. It's something closely related to the concept of Harmony as a foil. Buuut we'll get into the metaphysical at another point. Maybe when a more metaphysical sort gets some attention :trollestia:

Fundamentally though, nopony has a firm grasp of what exactly happens in the Milky Way. Something that will be a shock soon enough. The very nature of transhuman dread hasn't quite caught up to them as a concept, even if they known eldritch dread pretty well.

Ok don’t have long but I got to say I love how you write moon and sunset. I might be a bit bus with beacon horse being my second favorite but that besides the point. It always brings a smile to my face to see those two on screen and together there just the best. Both of it can be so over it in just different ways that’s it’s great. Ow boy the enemy of all hero’s bureaucrats, ow boy that’s the true scourge of the universe. And in no way is my option shaped by the lazy office works at my college that constantly loose my stuff and make me refill everything in by drom step one and say oops. Anyways I can’t wait to see what Luna has planed for this. Also ps what secret spot.

10044106
Ah thanks a ton, Dragstormer my dude. What can I say, they're a lot of fun and man Moony is in one of the top to write. She's weeeeirdly workable. Bacon horse has definitely grown on me since I started to work with her, she was always cool but now I just kind appreciate her more.

-laughs- But I am glad ot hear. They really are two of the most 'done' characters around, though they won't be the only ones by the end. Aaaaah bureaucrats. Sad as I am one, and hate them*; I definitely hear ya. I had them mis-file my paperwork for University graduation, so I had to round up a number of profs and apply pressure as they decided not to inform me that it hadn't come in, either.

Aaaah Luna's plan, well it'll be something: the question if it'll match the level of Horus's will remain to be seen. But should be fun. As for their secret hideout, it's totally not just Moony's basement. Nope: :trollestia:

*There's a very real reason I can't, and won't, write Sunburst. Clones hate one another.

Neighsay being Neighsay. Please tell me he's gonna learn his place in this story.

10053607
-laughs- I'll admit, Diclonius my dude, Neighsay is a weeeeird pony for me to work with.

On one hand, Luna's definitely gonna be trying to make him learn his place as she's sliding into a... certain mindset. On the other, he's a surprising 'gatekeeper'. After talking with a few o' me mates, I kinda also got hit by a logic brick that Neighsay is an ardent racist/speciesest that is doing what he thinks is in the national interest on behalf of ponies. If one put him in a human body, he'd have been an ardent Imperial ridiculously close to what you see in the Terran bureaucracy.

He is weird, objectionable, and cold, but I gotta give him points for being a pragmatic idealist who'll get his hooves a little dirty. We'll see what we can wriggle out of, eh? Man he's a weird pony.

10053667
I did a music video comparing him to the Inquisition once. But I wonder if you'd something similar to how he learned his lesson in season 8 (we did previously discuss the possibility of Cozy Glow being seduced by the Ruinous Powers, I figure encountering like that oughta get him on board with helping Horus)

10053676
Aye, precisely. It's a pretty accurate comparison frankly, and given what can be the final result, Neighsay may very well be able to toe the line as a Horusian or flip to an anti-Horusian, depending on circumstance. Much like Luther and Caliban, he treds a very fine line.

Neighsay is one of the most non-pony Ponies around as far as I'm concerned. If I was writing some sort of displaced/Anon story he'd almost certainly be a previous human as he feels so alien.

Aaaaah but Cozy... almost as fun as another particular pony I have in mind (that I still can't even add until nearly the epilogue here).

Neighsay sounds like sir Humphrey.

10054654
:rainbowlaugh: That really is about how I kinda view not only Neighsay's political 'whimsy' but Canterlot kinda in general.

And as a guy with friends who currently work in the Leg, scarily accurate when the cameras aren't rolling.

Ow boy this is going to be a mess and Luna not handling the situation well. Although on the other hand ignoring a problem isn’t going to make it go away or fix it so am not sure what neigh plan is here

Ha, nice. I had a feeling that I will find the sequel if I searched outside fanfiction.net !

Next time on it’s always night in Canterlot Luna makes a stupid the council continues to dabble in things they don’t understand and Horus learn the truth concerning his brothers punishment further pushing him to question his fathers actions

10057348
'Tis always a mess when those with positions of power try to flex their muscles :P Definitely called the next two chapters on that one, mate!

10061056
Aye, I was planning on eventually releasing it over there when this was all done. Good ta see ya here, eh!

A slow grin spreads across the princess's face, but the smile never reaches her eyes. After burying her muzzle in the mug, she inhaled silently and steels her nearly predatory grin. “We have a plan.”

She could just do what Mechanicum did when they wanted to become a new adeptus within lords of terra in "binary succession" audiodrama.

The Prancing Pony inn

Really? Lord of the ring much?

10073333
Man after all this angst and sick waving from all parties involved it’s going to be nice to see more pony/giant awkward interactions. Faust knows both of them will probably need it after what they each have to deal with

10073379
-cackles- now that is a good reference, nooooice mate, noice. Hah, had to, 5 AM and I blanked on any clever name whatsoever, and every local one is either a chain or is actually more ridiculous than that one (IE Fantasyland, and it's too small to be a Mareiotte). Besides, she's supposed to meet a wizard of sorts :twilightsheepish: Reason #2 I usually don't just write and send things out.

10073382
Sooon and very soon, luckily. Got some giants soon enough and some angsty purple plated parasites in particular, then the plan comes into effect. Yaz.

Glad to see you're not dead mate. You had me concerned for a minute.
