“I have a question,” said Scootaloo. “Last week we stopped by your house to check on you until we saw Miss Swamp. She had a key to your house. What was she doing there?”

Miss Cheerilee only stood there, staring at them with a blank face. She didn’t say anything. Suddenly, her lips twitched and curled into a smile, then had a fit of laughter, like someone had told her a joke. Apple Bloom and Scootaloo exchanged confused glances. They slowly delivered fake smiles, nervously playing along, although neither of them knew what they were smiling about.

“Why don’t girls go home. It’s getting late. I’ll see you tomorrow,” said Miss Cheerilee.

...What was that about?

This story is based on a certain children's book. If you read it, you'll understand. :raritywink:

As soon as I saw the title, my first thought was "I hope this is a reference to what I think it is." And it was.

Many thumbs up to you

Also, I wonder how Apple Bloom would have felt if it was Mrs. Gorf. I know that was a different series, but still.

Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger, perhaps? I thought it had that vibe to it. I'll have to look at it again.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it :pinkiehappy:

I haven't read any of the Wayside books though.

The name of the book is Miss Nelson is Missing.

Haven't read it, yet, but I feel like this is a reference to the Ms. Nelson books.

It is. Miss Nelson is Missing is what it's based on.

Honestly, that feels like the problem with this story. It's just a retelling of an old story, just replaced with ponies. I suddenly remembered every detail to a book I haven't read in at least sixteen years, and this just followed it with no major alterations.

This bit of Pre-K nostalgia made my day! Thank you for writing it!

That's fine. You're right, a lot of my stories are based on or inspired by other stories. I'm not very creative, nor am I good at coming up with anything original, although I wish I was. I know it's not a great way to go about things, but I like to think of it as paying homage to the stories/authors who inspired me to write.

Thanks for the critique. Honesty is all I look for.

I knew it was based on a children's book, just couldn't remember the name right off hand.

I'll admit I knew where this was going and have no problem. It's a great story in ALL ways. Still it would have been hilarious if the sub was Chrysalis. No longer possible I know but... would have been neat.

Oh my God, the nostalgia is real. :rainbowlaugh: Great story, this one really brought back the memories!

Was Ms. Cheerilee was disguised as the substitute teacher?

I haven’t read that story in almost 13 years. And this brings back many memories of it.

I won’t be surprise if it was Cheerilee the whole time. If so good girl if not why not say the old lady was taking care of the house? :applejackunsure:

I haven't seen that book in 20 years.

Aw, you forgot Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. Diamond would've had to apologize for acting up and not doing her homework and so would Silver Spoon as they would become better students too.
