Everyone knows that two mares can't have a foal. . . unless their best friend is one of the greatest magical minds in Equestria.
Applejack and Rainbow Dash went to Twilight Sparkle with a simple question: Could she make a spell that would allow them to have a foal together? After a year of magical research, Twilight thinks that she's done just that. But the spell is not without potential side effects, and AJ and Dash have to decide if they're ready to be part of a magical experiment that could give them a foal of their own, or cost Applejack her life.

Thank you! Yeah, I liked the idea that it was possible, but that playing with that kind of magic has all sorts of risks. Pregnancies can have all sorts of problems to begin with, there have to be some extra issues that come from *poofing* a baby (or other things) into existence.

Yeah, AppleDash is a very popular ship, but it seems to attract authors who prefer to write long stories, which they don't always update frequently. The AppleDash group socializing thread is a nest some of the highest rated AppleDash authors, but all we seem to be able to do is keep each other posted on which story we're currently taking forever to complete, and yell at each other to write faster! (Along with other silliness, of course.)
And to SuperPinkBrony12, there are a couple fanon explanations- BronyNeumo covers it a different way in his Applejoy stuff. I just hadn't seen this one covered.

Aw! This is adorable so far. Its cool to see a fic that actually goes into the process of the magic foal thing. A lot of them are like an Oprah show, with Twilight or Celestia just handing them out - "...And you get a magic foal, and you, and you - magic foals for everybody!"

Finally able to comment on this properly what with finally getting power back post Sandy. Dash's emotions and interactions with AJ were my favorite parts of the chapter mainly due to her being in protection mode while simultaneously displaying her need of AJ.
I also found this to be quite refreshing seeing potential repercussions to the two females have a kid story line. Instead of casting a spell and giving one of them male genitalia or a simple spell cast one of them with no side effects, you go the route of it being potentially hazardous.
I especially love “Mares sometimes die givin' birth,” Applejack said softly. “And sometimes they lose their foal, and sometimes the foal ain't healthy. Havin' a foal is a risk, however ya' do it. Twilight worked hard to come up with this for us, so I think we oughta hear all the risks and talk about it.” Once again AJ is that steadying rock in somepony's life that help them see things with a bit of a clearer mind.

And that's. . . an interesting question, which we were just discussing over on the AppleDash group. Last year, AppleDash was the biggest pairing. But since then, TwiDash and RariJack seems to be constantly beating it out. Recently, you see far fewer new AppleDash fics, and none of them get very popular. The last AppleDash in the feature box was back in September.

Despite Tchernobog's poking, I haven't tried an AppleDash myself except for a couple of small one-shots. I doubt I will unless I can come up with a good twist or angle to keep it fresh. What you have going so far - this is the kind of angle I'm talking about. It promises to keep things interesting and I have no doubt you'll do it justice.
