Lyra Heartstrings wakes up in a black void with no idea how she got there or who she is. Later she finds that she had her mind wiped by new technology from Canterlot scientists, but she got more than she opted for. A certain anomaly has inserted itself into her mind, and is trapped. Now, it's fighting to gain control, and it isn't going to be nice about it...

1601653 Fixed. I try to look these things over, but something always trips me up... Thanks!
zomg that cover art is sexy
the idea of having Lyra relive her memories through the machine sounds an awful lot like the Animus from Assassins Creed
1797516 By that logic, one could argue that it's also like the Matrix or any other number of works where the mind is allowed to live in a different reality from the real one. The difference here is pretty clear; it's not using memories for a tangible purpose in the present, and it's not reliving memories from centuries in the past but from within her own life. Total Recall experiments with that theme, and also adds a nice "what's real/what's not real" element, which itself wasn't original in the slightest even back in the '80s.
Hell, you could even say the way that internal conflict is externalized in this fic by turning a psychological concept into a fightable monster is a ripoff from Forbidden Planet.
