FIRST AND FOREMOST: No, this story is not a parody of the Stephen King novel The Shining. The title is a convenient horror/tragedy reference, but that’s as far as it goes.
The golden toilet is real! In fact, there’s a working bathroom called the “Hall of Gold” in Hong Kong. Check this place out: http://home.howstuffworks.com/most-expensive-toilet-in-world.htm. Incredible, right?
Many people I have seen tend to take the ‘ponies live shorter lives than humans’ route, but seeing as Granny Smith has been around since Ponyville was founded, I’ve come to the conclusion that their lives are actually extremely long. Thus, senior status is not achieved until the pony is 155 years of age.
”That’s another story for another time” is a quote from The Neverending Story by Michael Ende; it is used quite often when the author explains how the main character has affected the course of history in various parts of the world, but can no longer (for obvious reasons) continue the tangent.
As it’s not important to the plot, I’ll go ahead and tell you that Velvet Skies and Landed Eagle are Celestia and Luna. ‘Velvet Skies’ is my personal name for Tia’s pink-haired pegasus disguise. I don’t know if there’s an official fan name. ‘Landed Eagle’ comes from the lunar module called the ‘Eagle’. You may have heard ‘the Eagle has landed’ before, right? That’s what they said during the US’s moon landing.
