    Droppin' By

Hello, I was in the neighborhood and had just realized that my last blog post was a bit of a downer, given that it was around the time of my Grandma's passing and funeral. I think I oughta leave you folks with something a bit more upbeat or at least something neutral.

    And Now, A Newsletter

Huh, back in July I said I oughta talk more around here. It's now the day after Christmas and I have not, in fact, talked more around here.

So, I'll give you the rundown on what I've been up to since then. Warning, it gets a little long in talking about last summer's vacation and about a new fixation I have.

At Last... It's Done · 2:59am Dec 4th, 2014

Lo, and behold, I have finally finished The Rock Farmer's Daughters.

Whew, took me over eight months. But, it was worth it to finally get that story out of my head.

Of course it's really annoying when people don't read a certain disclaimer or author's notes on either here or FanFiction.net, and ask me the question, "Hold on! What about Nightmare Moon? Shouldn't there be eternal night?"

*rubs temples* How many times do I have to tell you people that a different mare is the Element of Laughter in RFD?!

Granted, I never revealed her, but I find it unimportant to the overall story. But, I'll be honest, I didn't want to deal with the whole eternal night thing, so I just threw that excuse out there and said, "Okay, you get it? I'm not going the instant eternal night route; plenty of people are already dealing with that as a plot point with their own fics, now shut up."

*sigh* Okay, I've got that off my chest now.

Now, let me give you a few fun facts on the making of this fan fic! :pinkiehappy: *SPOILER WARNING*

--The story was originally going to be grumpy country girl delivers fossil to Manehattan, meets serious city boy, and they fall in love. Unfortunately, I could not come up with any events, so I turned Cheese into a non-party pony hobo, and better ideas came.

--The story originally had Igneous and Cloudy dead as a result of an accident during "eternal night."

--The town of Nickerlite was originally unnamed; somebody on FF.Net suggested that I give it a name, one dealing with rocks. I settled for a combination of the term "nicker" and "niccolite".

--Cortland was in fact inspired by Gaston from "Beauty and the Beast" (as if that wasn't obvious).

--Cortland was made the villain because I thought I'd see if a member of the Apple Family could be a villain... and because creating a cousin for Applejack is a little too easy. :rainbowwild:

--A scrapped plot point was Cortland framing Cheese... for murder. Of Riffraff. And there was to be a court scene where Pinkamena ultimately confessed her love for Cheese. I couldn't figure out how to make it work, so...

--There was going to be a dog named "Bean." Not a Diamond Dog; a domestic dog. The story didn't lend itself for that, but Bean does appear in the form of a stuffed animal.

--I had a flood at the apple orchard planned. That was originally when Sugar Glider would have gone into labor. Also, Cheese and Cortland would have had a fight. But... I didn't go through with it, sadly.

--I also had planned Igneous' muscle injury to happen earlier, where he and Cheese go into the quarry, Igneous injures himself somehow, and Cheese has to carry him back, and ends up impressing Pinkamena.

--I originally had no intention of touching on Cheese's family; Tommy just snuck his way into the fic.

--Sedimentary Rock wasn't a part of the fic either; in fact, I only came up with her when Igneous mentioned his sister in Chapter 24.

--And Bluejinx also came out of nowhere; I did debate on whether the "blue pony" in Chapter 17 was going to be Royal Pin (aka Pokey Pierce) or not. I ultimately decided not, and figured "hey, why not give one of Tommy's colthood friends from It Broke the Camel's Back some character?"

--Purple Prose was created because I just wanted to name a pony that.

--I have debated on showing the other members of the Mane Six... but ultimately decided to just show Applejack.

--Pinkamena originally kissed Cheese to spite Cortland. I thought... "Nah. Let her kiss him because she has feelings for him, not to spite somepony."

--Instead of sneaking out, the entire Pie family--Igneous, Cloudy, and Maud included--went to the carnival willingly.

--The rainbow scene originally took place in Ponyville; Cheese and Pinkamena went on a delivery trip there and had to spend a rainy night there for some reason. And then when they woke up, boom, rainbow, and boom, Pinkamena smile! Because I had no idea where it would fit, the rainbow scene took place in Nickerlite instead.

--There was also a scene where the pair fought off thugs on the top of a train. I had no idea where that would fit.

--Applejack originally had an appearance in the prologue... pretty much yelling at Cheese stealing some apples.

--I actually debated making Haralson the true villain of the story; settled for a guy who made poor parenting choices instead and winds up in grief because of it.

--Cortland originally lived, was caught by the townsfolk, and sent to prison, leaving his family ashamed. Didn't want to bother with that, so I hit him with a train instead.

--And finally, I had some debate on what I wanted to do for the epilogue: the wedding, Pinkamena announcing she was pregnant, or the birth of their foal(s). I went with the first because it had the best father/daughter scene with Igneous and Pinkamena.

And now, for a final note... here's Pizza Pockets and Fudge Fondue in the RFD universe:

Aaand those new CheesePie foals that I mentioned in my last blog post (Rocky Road, Berry Blast, and Cheesecake Chase):

Okay, that's all folks. :raritywink:

Thanks for writing that story. It was great to read.

i would ask how in tartarus did pinkie and cheese have a unicorn and pegasus foal when they're both earth ponies, but then i remember that the cakes did, so screw breeding logic when it comes to these ponies

It was a lot of fun to read. Congratulations on finishing it! It feels good to finish a long running story, doesn't it?

Applejack originally had an appearance in the prologue... pretty much yelling at Cheese stealing some apples.

:rainbowlaugh: That would have been hilarious. Just saying.

This one,

The story was originally going to be grumpy country girl delivers fossil to Manehattan, meets serious city boy, and they fall in love.

Is actually fairly similar to an AU dark CheesePie fic I've wrote a little on but may never publish (it's rather grim and NSFW). Though, Pinkie's just normal Pinkie in it. Funny how similar ideas go through different author's heads.

Can't wait to see what you'll write next! I always enjoy your stories. Your writing style is so easy to read!

2632632 Well, I have an headcanon that Pinkie's grandmother is a pegasus and Cheese's grandmother is a unicorn. Also party ponies defy logic anyway. Oddly makes more sense than the Cakes' excuses. :unsuresweetie:

I have to say I definitely prefer that it be this way over quite a few of those idea. They're good ideas, but I can't see them working as well.

Enjoyed the entire ride! Sad to see it end, but all good things must come to an end sadly!(Except ponies!).
So, got to ask. What's next?

2632651 by pinkie grandmother, you're talking about surprise are you? i hear that's who pinkie was meant to be in Lauren's original idea for the show

I am glad you had Seddie and the others in there. The point of the story was not to rely on cliches but let the story go where it goes. Cheese's family would have been brought up anyway someone was bound to ask eventually I mean hes a mysterious drifter there had to be a reason why he's a drifter so of course his family issues will brought into it. So its no problem if you snuck it in and I like the cheesepie foals you made up there. they are so adorable.

--The story was originally going to be grumpy country girl delivers fossil to Manehattan, meets serious city boy, and they fall in love. Unfortunately, I could not come up with any events, so I turned Cheese into a non-party pony hobo, and better ideas came.

I would have loved to see that but what you did was good too.

--Cortland originally lived, was caught by the townsfolk, and sent to prison, leaving his family ashamed. Didn't want to bother with that, so I hit him with a train instead.

:rainbowlaugh: Best change out of all of these. But seriously, one of the most unique CheesePie fics I've ever read. Props to ya, nice.

--Pinkamena originally kissed Cheese to spite Cortland. I thought... "Nah. Let her kiss him because she has feelings for him, not to spite somepony."

I actually would have loved to see this in this story. I believe it would have made a more interesting (not really "more" interesting just like equally interesting but with a more bumpy road to the mutual attraction) storyline. With more strife, anger, confusion, and misleading actions.
Though if you took it the way I'm thinking it would have been a little less comedic.
