Not gone, and not forgotten · 8:52pm Oct 2nd, 2015
Hello, everyone.
I've been receiving messages recently from people concerned about the story, fearing it's dead or I'm not around anymore. While this is not the case, it's easy to see why many might think so.
I haven't been able to make any progress on the story. I do want to finish it, but while I keep telling myself it's just one more chapter, that fact is also the thing that keeps choking me up, so to speak. Every time I return to the chapter I find myself wanting to push the story in one direction, and every time I keep thinking that what I write is contrived or not up to snuff. It can be extremely discouraging, especially given the huge amount of time since the last chapter. So I walk away from it, take time to stew over what to do next, come back, still feel unsatisfied, and so and so on...
(To any aspiring writers out there, please look up "Save the Cat!" and give that a good read over. I really wished I had.)
I also keep feeling exhausted every time my work week is over, and when I think, "I'll rest a little longer," the next thing I know it's time to work again.
What's more, there have been a number of things in my life that have demanded my attention, and as a result I've often had to choose them over the story itself. Priorities are priorities.
Ultimately what it really comes down to is that I need to devote a day or two solely to the story itself, if only just to finally figure out what I'm missing and what I need to do to wrap everything up. This is something I don't want to leave hanging after so long, while there are still readers out there who want to see it finished.
Thank you for your continued support. I hope the next time I post here I'll have something more positive to share.
Bad Horse did a very nice treatment of Showing and Telling that referenced the Save the Cat series, which is where I first got exposed to that meme. Sometimes it seems as if screenwriters have been frozen into the Save the Cat model so deeply that everything on TV can be traced back to the book. I'm a firm believer in two laws of writing.
1) Follow the rules
2) Unless breaking them makes a better scene/story/character.
Really good to see you posting publicly again. If you need someone to bounce ideas off of, I'm willing to help. I'm no writer, but I know what I like to read. Not to mention, my spelling and grammar are much better than average. If not me, I'm sure someone else could assist.
Alternately, you could just go for broke, post the whole thing, warts and all, and let your readers pick it apart. Then you could go back and edit it or post an "alternate ending".
Good to hear you're still around at-least.
Glad to hear of it.
You take care of yourself as best you can.
Man... I forgot this story even existed... I miss reading about our buddy Mort.
This also reminds me of what most of my P&P RPGs that I play refer to in the rules...
The biggest rule is to have fun, to enjoy your game. if the rules get in the way of that, then go with something that 'feels' right instead of the rules.
We'll wait as long as it takes.
Mort, Mort, Mort, Mort, Mort...
That's okay. Life's the reason we're all here, innit?

If what you want to write is not cutting, write how the story wants to be written, just to excorcise it. You might find something interesting. Some of the stories I've tried writing have often carried me off on a tangent that later proved better than what I wanted to write, or showed a way out of a hole.
Yours was the first story I ever read on this site. I can wait a long time.
This bar that I'm raising
To be this amazing--
It's hard!...
It's hard to be the Bard!
Nice to hear that the story isn't "dead" *Ba-Dumm-Tsk* but in seriousness try this out. While unwinding from work and if your just watching TV. Just have a note book and during the commercial breaks just write down some collective ideas. Then when you get a day off go through your notes you made to help piece together the next chapter. It's a lot less stressful and your not stuck trying to do it all on one day
Just as long as we know that you have not abandoned us we will wait. I know in my case life keeps getting in the way.
....He said, nearly two years ago and even longer since an update
Not really, be alive please
Hope to see you return soon!
Guess this isn't happening, huh?

I’ll still believe you’ll return and update on us soon. This was one of the first fanfictions I’ve read here in Fimfiction and whenever I have the time I can always reread it and still get the same vibe of reading it the first time. Hope you’re doing well and can’t wait for the next chapter!
