Observations on "The Cutie Re-Mark." · 12:58am Dec 1st, 2015
I hear people everywhere saying that Starlight was willing to go through her revenge even though she knows what'll happen to Equestria. But people seem to keep forgetting that Starlight outright calls what Twilight showed her bullshit (not literally, mind you). Starlight is not convinced at all that her intervention of the timeline actually brings the destruction of Equestria. Whether she doesn't believe Twilight out of spite or because she mistrust Twilight that much is not clear, though.
On that point: Twilight keeps wondering WHY the fate of Equestria depends so much on her and her friends being together? But each timeline she visits she points out how in her own timeline she and her friends fought the villain that is terrorizing Equestria each time. The existence of their group of friends is what ultimately lead to the defeat of Nightmare Moon, Discord, Chrysalis, Sombra, Tirek and... the Flim Flam Brothers? Meh.
The point is, It is fairly obvious why they're so important for the fate of Equestria because they've saved it MULTIPLE TIMES! C'mon! Twilight is supposed to be the smart one.
Also, many people claim that Starlight's reformation was weak compared to the rest of the other villains reformations, since they all had to be defeated and broken before-hand. Well, Starlight made herself re-live the day she lost her friend all those years ago. She exposed herself and made herself vulnerable. She showed Twilight why she thinks she has every reason to hate the world, but by doing so she broke down. She went through catharsis, similarly as how Moondancer went. Twilight, instead of confronting Starlight, she let her know that there was a chance to be happy, and that's when the reformation happened.
I think when Twilight says she doesn't know why her friends are so important to Equestria, she means in a "why us" sort of way as opposed to "we haven't done anything to be important". She doesn't know why she and her friends are the ones who are important to Equestria, but she knows that they did is important regardless of why.

Just like Twilight, you're answering the question and still don't understand why. It was thanks to their actions that they could defeat all the villains that are conquering Equestria in each alternate timeline. If their group of friends never formed, they could never intervene on each of the villain's scheme, and if they don't intervene on the villain's scheme, the villain wins, giving the alternate timeline as a result.
It's not a matter of "Why," it's a mater of "What."
3586698 You didn't really provide any new information to really counteract mine; your claim is that if they had never formed the villains would win, which is obvious as it's exactly what happened in the show. I don't see how Twilight saying "I don't know why my friends specifically are important, or even why we were chosen as the Elements of Harmony, but I know that without us Equestria is doomed" conflicts with the group not forming=destruction of Equestria. In fact, it downright supports it.
I'm sorry, I don't understand what your stance is, and I'd like to clear any confusion.

Indeed.
Let me put it this way:
At one point Twilight says "King Sombra is ruling the Crystal Empire? But my friends and I helped stop him!"
At a later point, Twilight says "I don't understand why the present is so messed up. Why are my friends and I so important?"
At a later point, Twilight says "Queen Chrysalis is conquering Equestria? But my friends and I helped stop her!"
At a later point, Twilight says "I don't understand why the present is so messed up. Why are my friends and I so important?"
At a later point, Twilight says "Nightmare Moon is ruling Equestria? But my friends and I stopped her!"
At a later point, Twilight says "I don't understand why the present is so messed up. Why are my friends and I so important?"
Are you seeing the pattern here? Twilight is aknowledging their victories, but still doesn't understand WHY they're so important for the fate of Equestria.
Twilight doesn't realize that it is because of their intervention that those villains lost, yet she keeps aknowledging facing off against them in the past (and for the record, she doesn't even mentions the Elements of Harmony having chosen them even once).
She can understand that they're important for the fate of Equestria, but doesn't know why despite she keeps aknowledging why in the episodes. She's considering the Sonic Rainboom that bounded them together as the only cause for those villains defeat, but that is not true.
The Sonic Rainboom caused all six of them to discover their special talent and earn their Cutie Marks. This, caused each of them to live lives that eventually lead all six of them to Ponyville. This lead them to live their first adventure together and become friends, which in turn caused them to face many enemies that they all defeated or helped defeat.
If you still don't understand... then I don't know how else to tell you.
3588673 Ah, I see. Thank you for clearing that up. Your point definitely makes sense, and I came in rather uninformed considering I haven't seen the entire episode and didn't realize Twilight was attributing the villain's defeat to the Rainboom. That make way more sense.
