    Droppin' By

Hello, I was in the neighborhood and had just realized that my last blog post was a bit of a downer, given that it was around the time of my Grandma's passing and funeral. I think I oughta leave you folks with something a bit more upbeat or at least something neutral.

    And Now, A Newsletter

Huh, back in July I said I oughta talk more around here. It's now the day after Christmas and I have not, in fact, talked more around here.

So, I'll give you the rundown on what I've been up to since then. Warning, it gets a little long in talking about last summer's vacation and about a new fixation I have.

FIMfic Anniversary! · 11:19pm Apr 3rd, 2016

Wow, apparently I'm pretty talkative this weekend. This is the third day in a row that I posted a blog post!

Anyway, it's now been two years since I joined this site only to get my first pony fanfic, The Rock Farmer's Daughters, out to more people. To this day, it's still my most popular fic, and I look back on writing it fondly. Even if I never write in that AU again (no ideas for a sequel, sorry), I still love the little AU versions of Cheese Sandwich and Pinkie Pie. Their relationship was fun to write.

Got a few more fics under my belt, a good chunk of them toying around with headcanons about Cheese's origins and his family, specifically, this relationship:

If I'm going to be honest, I enjoy writing sibling relationships more than romantic relationships.

I wonder what'll come by my next anniversary.

Anyway, feel free to ask me some questions about anything (SFW). I want to celebrate the occasion somehow.

How do you keep track of all of the romantic and familial relationships in your continuity?

Awesome, happy FIMversary and I really did enjoy Rock Farmer's Daughters, it was really cool to read.

Do you have any specific ideas for your next story?

Do you have a Scootaloo headcanon?

Completely random, but what's your favorite food? Mine's fettuccine alfredo. Delicious.

“¡Get your hooves up, party’s starting out right now!”
“¡Everypony, everypony get down!”
“¡Time to make a wish, better make it right now!”
“¡It’s been an year and today is your birthdayparty!”

“¡Make a wish, it’s your birthday!”

I have a list of characters, I draw them so as to get a feel of their personality, I employ theme naming for families, and as for romance... I really don't deal with much romance in my fics, so they're easy to keep track of. I may also have an absurdly good memory.

1. I've got several ideas that I'm still trying to figure out how to employ. I have:
~Applejack having an alicorn kid (because it's funny); problem is coming up with a story (and not repeating things done by the Cake Twins and Flurry Heart).
~An adventure story involving Roanie and her gang escaping from jail, coming back to Nickerlite in order to ransack the place, and then in their escape, they nab Bluejinx and one of the Pies. Blue and Miss Pie (either Marble or Limestone) escape and have to walk back home (no money for the train, unfortunately).
~Return of Mara the Dream Demon! She forces all the ponies of Equestria to play a deadly game in the Dreamscape, for when a dream demon is around when you die in a dream, you die in the waking world. Also, they have a week for their dream avatars to return to their minds before the bodies either die or are possessed by Mara's fellow demons.
~CheesePie Wedding, aka the Pies and Sandwiches meet and don't like each other.
~Fair Game, AKA an AU where the Cutie Re-Mark didn't happen and Starlight instead raised a kid (the title character), who ended up becoming a horrible monster that took the equality philosophy one step further...
~Little CocoShill fic--Silver Shill is embarrassed about his underbite, especially when he finds out he's meeting Coco Pommel again. Shenanigans involving Comedy Gold and Silk Shimmer as they try to fix it before Coco arrives.
~One-Shot of Party Favor visiting big bro Kazam in jail.
~Sunburst meets the Town Four.

*sigh* So many ideas...

2. Her parents are alive and well--I never bought into the "Orphan Scootaloo" thing. Also, I kind of want to see her becoming a big sister. I think it'd be neat to have one of the Crusaders be a big sibling.

3. I'm fond of eating cheddar cheese (whether just a slice or in a sandwich), pizza rolls, pasta, tacos, and french fries. :pinkiehappy:

Um, well...What do you expect for season six?
(Yeah, it's a little bit generic...)
Also, What original character do you like writing most? Which one do you dislike writing?

Sorry if the questions aren't understandable, English it's not my mother language :p (I speak Spanish :) )

I don't know what I expect honestly. At the moment, I'm currently looking forward to meeting Fluttershy's brother, and my biggest hope (besides a return of Cheese Sandwich) is that we finally meet Scootaloo's parents so the "orphan Scootaloo" thing can officially die. I really hate that meme.

Out of my OCs, the one I enjoy writing the most is obviously Tomato Sandwich. It's so much fun exploring each of the layers of his character, poking fun at his quirks, and having him interact with multiple characters, especially with Cheese.

As for those I don't like writing, probably the parent OCs aside from the Sandwich parents and Quasar Rune. There's just these pitfalls where I end up making them these bland, generic parents that don't have much impact on the current story if they're good parents.

(I'm sorry if I misinterpreted that and you meant canon characters--in that case, it'd be Cheese Sandwich as my favorite to write (I write him as a combination of what we see in the show, part of my personality, and part of my brother's, and that combination is fun), and Celestia as my least favorite to write (I like her, but it's so hard nailing both the motherly and fun side of her character, ugh!))

And don't worry, you wrote some pretty good English there. :pinkiehappy:

Will we ever learn what the heck happened to Hay Burger and Mozzerella, especially Hay Burger? It seems like its hinted that they were very different, especially Hay, until right after the birth of Cheese. Then they changed significantly. As Cheese and Tomato are the center of your universe, and both are profoundly affected by their dysfunctional relationship with their parents, I feel like this is a key mystery to understanding so much more of the entire Sketcha-verse.

Was this addressed and I was simply not observant enough to pick up on it? Because I admit, that is a real possibility.

Yes, actually I was referring to your OC's
And thank you :)

It was just normal marital problems, along with their opposing personalities, that caused a rift between them. Mozzarella's a domineering and stubborn mare, and Hay Burger's a pretty shy stallion that doesn't like attention and would rather avoid conflict. They married because they ended up working well together with their talents (Ella managing some sort of project and keeping others in line; Hay effortlessly organizing it) in a professional setting, and thought a romance would work the same way. It didn't.

They thought a baby could help them grow closer. While there was a bit of happiness for a time (Hay absolutely loved baby Cheese and played with him often), things ended up souring again with more clashing. Ella has tried to bond with Hay again (that's where Tomato came from), though she's unfortunately kind of aggressive and scares him.

By the time Tomato was born, they pretty much gave up, only staying together because Ella wants the best possible outcome for her sons (involving being raised in a nuclear family), and Hay doesn't feel like there's anywhere he can go (especially after his parents die).

Also, Ella still holds a bit of resentment toward her sister Honeydew for being everyone's "favorite" twin, and lets it poison her interaction with others. Doesn't help that she had initially met Hay when they were foals... because Hay was Honeydew's friend. That makes their marriage a bit frustrating for her when she keeps thinking that her husband might be pining for her sister.

And she's trying to compensate for this miserable marriage by trying to get her sons to be successful... her definition of success, unfortunately. And you know how Cheese and Tomato responded to that.

Anyway, I just thought I didn't need to cover it, since it was nothing spectacular. Of course, I probably would have covered it eventually in Hay Burger's Birthday Bio (his birthday is in June, and Mozzarella's is in August).

3848367 Thanks for explaining this, I think it really sheds a new light on the four. I thought it might be some kind of traumatic event, but it was just life beating down on two ponies who didn't think things through when they were young and are too stubborn to admit they've made a mistake now. I really appreciate you sharing it.
