Review - The Unity Pact · 3:59am Oct 21st, 2016
So I've read through a copious amount of mlp fanfiction over the years, and I thought I'd take a moment to recommend some good ones. You know, in case you're tired of the junk I produce (in spite of my best efforts).
First up, a recent read for me. It's called The Unity Pact. A group of about 800 humans get teleported to Equestria and have to survive there. The ponies are less than happy to have a group of violent creatures show up in Equestria, and the humans are less than happy to have a bunch of armored alien horses breathing down their necks. Toss in a language barrier and some cultural misunderstandings, and you've got a powder keg ready to go off.
The Good: The writing style takes a bit to get used to but it quickly became one of my favorite parts. You'll get every single detail of everything important going on, which really helps you feel like you're part of the story. The characters are also well developed, and whoever the current chapter is following, you'll find yourself missing the others. The story also has a good sense of pacing, and you'll always want to read more just to see what happens next.
The Bad: A few characters kind of get lost as the story goes on, and a few others do things that are important to the plot but make no sense otherwise. Also, the editing is ... well, it's not great. Just learn to ignore typos and you'll be fine.
The Warnings: This story is good, but definitely not suited to children. Expect swearing, violence, and nudity to run rampant whenever the humans are involved. It's all believable and works fine for the characters, but don't go reading this story to your 10-year-olds.
The Verdict: If you liked A New Dragon in Ponyville and want to see themes of prejudice, cultural misunderstandings, and working to build trust in a different setting, this story could be for you. I give it three Raritys and a Spikestache:
