This movies is freaking amazing, but it also destroyed me. Why Marvel? How could you do this to us?

One that somehow finds time to overthink about magical ponies, and sometimes write about it.

It's so difficult to talk about it while remaining spoiler-free...
This film was masterfully built on the decade of films leading up to it, and more generally on the century of cinema leading up to it. As an isolated, stand-alone film, Infinity War would be lacking; because it isn't a stand-alone film, it's the capstone on the MCU. The audience have been trained, through experience after experience, to expect that the plots of these films will play out in a certain way. Infinity War takes those expectations and tropes, and it turns them around.
You don't have to have seen all the MCU films leading up to it, though the more the better just so you know in advance who everybody is and how they relate.
