A Sugar and Spice Retrospective, And Also a Tea Recipe · 10:00pm Aug 9th, 2018

In 5 or so years of writing, Sugar and Spice is both the longest and probably the best story I've managed to finish so far. If nothing else, it's absolutely a story that has the most things I like about it, which is particularly weird given that it's just... not the sort of story I tend to write. Side-character, non-Princess romance? OCs? Comedy?!

I know. I must have fallen ill, or something.

Or, at least, I've fallen for my two dear friends, MrNumbers and Aragon, who I've apparently I've spent so much time working with that I've inadvertently begun to try to emulate their comedic style and wit – or I guess, like, feebly attempt to mimic them. Which is really just flattery, if the saying holds true.

Seriously, though, I owe these two dudes a lot and I consider this story a sort-of reflection of all the ways that writing and editing and learning with these dudes has sharpened my mind and my writing skills. Probably super wanker-y but I've had a little bit of prosecco and feeling a lot of feelings right now.

I finished a thing! And it wasn't a short story! And it was, like, actually kind of funny! Woo!

(Also, I literally only finished this story because Aragon made a joke about me not finishing things. Don't believe me? Look:

Turns out spite is a powerful motivator. Who knew?)

Anyway, with the advent of this blog, the story is now complete. The main reason I wanted to make this blog was because this incredibly amazing thing happened during the writing of Sugar and Spice that I wanted to share with you all. It literally helped me write the final chapter of the story, which is hilarious.

So. It's the middle of July, I've just finished the penultimate chapter of Sugar and Spice, and MrNumbers and GhostOfHeraclitus are about to do something magical...

The Everything Nice Tea: From That One Fic Pear Wrote

And there you have it. If anyone decides to try and make this tea, please please let me know what you think. I'm planning to make it myself at some point soon, or at least before I die. Perhaps it's secretly a poison and it's all a convoluted scheme to kill me. Who knows? I wouldn't put it past the Australian, at any rate.

Also, I hope to announce some things later this month that I, at least, am really looking forward to. Stay tuned, and thank you all for reading!

The prospect of more pearwords is always a good thing.

I would like to take the opportunity to first say it was my pleasure to be Tea Consultant on this fic and that I had _no idea_ that there was a character named 'Cumin' before I suggested it be a part of the spice mixture.

(And yes I can mix spices in my head. I've been known to mentally compose sauces while waiting in queues.)

Just one more vocation for your business cards.

4917364 I think him and Bradel Bound are competing for the most complicated business card.

Something in eggshell with Romalian type, perhaps.

4917367 Hmmm I was thinking more along the lines of, a circle of unshredded tea leaves, which you chant and offer rakia to, whereupon a demon appears and recites their deeds and triumphs.

Oh man, I'd be super curious to hear what she thinks of it!

Defictionalization is a beautiful thing.

You have to make sure you get the incantation right. Otherwise, you just summon Dotted Line.

4917700 I mean... I'm not seeing a downside.

4917734
It will be Dotted Line without tea.

4917794 Ooh, true, he also may be offended by one's flagrant abuse of perfectly good tea.
