Sleep, Pretty Darling: A Look Into The Relationships We Build · 3:57am Nov 30th, 2018
Hello oh lovely readers. Thanks for stopping by to read this!
Sleep, Pretty Darling has been very fun for me. I had this fic planned ever since The Mom 6's (TM6) chapters involving The Wonderbolts. I honestly did not see Spitfire becoming the Mama she did, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, but it happened. It did. And I'm honestly so glad it did.
This story to me was centered around the following quote:
"Life is about choices. Some we regret, some we're proud of. We are what we choose to be." - Graham Brown
This fic is all about what choices we make, and how they shape us. Like the following quote says:
"We all have people in our lives. Some of them are good. Some of them are bad. But they shape us." - Derek Morgan
Spitfire was Rainbow's hero growing up. She helped to shape her into who she was. And that idolization did spill over into her little space, though in a slightly different way, as you can see. She loved her like a mother and saw her that way too.
For Spitfire, the choice to take care of Rainbow Dash was not exactly easy. Her professionalism made for a difficult transition to parenthood. But she knew that Rainbow had always idolized her, and could see that for her, it translated to the role of a parent when she was in her little space. She at first cares about her in a more sisterly way, or, of course, like a coworker. But when Rainbow called her "Mama", it changed her. More specifically, it changed her perception of Rainbow Dash and herself.
Spitfire had always seen herself as a Wonderbolt first and foremost. A captain. A Coach. And, to be blunt, a drill sergeant. She never in a million years would have thought of herself as a mother, or even a partner in a romantic relationship. But Rainbow changed that. She had taken care of her niece from time to time, and thought herself to be good with kids, but it didn't mean that she was interested in having one. All the pain and money- plus it was distracting from her dream. What she had not anticipated was having a child who shared that dream. And for the first time, she thought that maybe Rainbow Dash fit that mold. All of that, plus seeing her in her foalish attire helped her to come to terms with that. However, she did not see herself as Rainbow's Mother until she actually called herself that to comfort her. And she realized that that was what she wanted to be.
This story is about the choices that shape us, and the choices that form our families. It's not always blood that binds a family. It's about the families that we create. That's what I wanted to showcase here.
Thank you all for reading.
It also showed how far she would go with it, especially after Rainbow Dash was hurt not once, but twice. She was there to help her recover from her wounds, and punished those who hurt Dash.
