i have come to a realization.

the vast majority of manga/anime (over 90%) that I've been consuming in the past year has had at least one crossdressing or one transgender character.
- komi can't communicate --> osana najimi
- blend s --> hideri kanzaki
- himegoto --> hime arikawa, kaguya arikawa, no.1-san, and others
- reversible --> shuu kaidou and tsubaki yaezaki (the two main characters)
- fukaboku --> mogumo-chan and others
- my crossdressing senpai (my favorite manga tbh) --> makoto hanaoka
...the list goes on...
...
i think i have a problem. send help 
It's probably a pipe dream but I hope we'll see a solid femboy character in the MLP franchise. I would love to see more feminine male characters that break gender norms in a wholesome, positive way (like the brony fandom itself). Looks like the closest we'll ever get is Starcrossed.

No lie, the pathos that comes from not fitting in to the gender norms of our patriarchal society tends to make one a good author. I literally go to Scribblehub solely to browse stories with the transgender tag.
I have a personal headcanon that Zipp is either non-binary or gender fluid and have a few ideas about how to explore that in my own stories going forward... But that will likely remain in the realm of personal interpretation.
Also Najimi is literally the best.

I'd say there's a lot more choices if you branch out to manga. The list above is a good start (Highly recommend My Crossdressing Senpai, it actually tackles themes of gender identity and transphobia--not just making a crossdressing gag character like countless other anime/manga).

I’ve read and seen a few cross-dressing mangas/animes in my time and they’re often good stories that touch upon deep subjects with maturity and grace. Obviously there’s bigger pits to fall into with such topics but the more successful ones are successful because they do it very well.
As a guy, I’ve also found myself reading things outside of my demographic that made me feel a little conflicted.
Like the Stuck in a Villainess tropes and even some Gender Bending stories.
Thankfully, I consume so much anime/manga/light novels that I don’t feel in danger of being turned to any particular side. I just chalk it down to “I enjoy a good story, and good stories come from this place pretty often.” I grew up with anime like Ouran Highschool Club after all.
If you care to see my top picks between those three categories, I’d suggest reading the mangas for
Ookami Shounen wa Kyou (Crossdressing boy, safe to read)
Higeki no Genkyou to Naru Saikyou (Villainess, safe to read)
Boku Girl (Gender-bend, a little raunchy, excercise caution. Though 100% worth the read.)
