Princess Luna doesn't only visit nightmares.

Second place in the 13th Quills and Sofas Speedwriting contest. The prompt was "Drifting Away."

Even in her retirement Princess Luna had still felt obligated to walk through dreams and fix every pony's- now every creature's- nightmares. She did not mind doing this every sunset to sunrise but lately her sister Tia felt that her night time job was wearing on Luna. They were both in retirement and yet one still continued to work her hooves dead.

So, after some consideration, Princess Luna agreed and took a trip down to Canterlot to pass down her knowledge to their successor, Twilight.

Nestled in the shade of the Foal Mountains, the trees of the Umbral Forest darken the skies for the inhabitants of Hollow Shades. Most are more than pleased to be subjected to varying degrees of twilight and night, the most natural time of day for the bat ponies that call the town home. Yet, the Umbral Forest, while more tame than it's unruly cousin the Everfree Forest, is no stranger to things that go bump in the night.

A Reddoverse Sidestory - Reading of the main storyline is not required for this story.

Written for, and placed 3rd in, the 1st Monster Mare Story Contest (Unpopular Monsters). Absolutely last minute, I might add. I only discovered the contest by accident the day before the contest closed.

Luna has been the keeper of dreams well before her banishment, and after a thousand years of absence and unchecked nightmares, she makes a vow to herself to continue helping ponies to the best of her abilities.

But, unfortunately for her, somepony doesn't take kindly to dreams being so rudely rooted around in, changing this and that all willy nilly with no regard for anypony else's hard work.

This somepony thinks it's time that Princess Luna be brought in for a little chat.

When Twilight and Applejack explore a mysterious cave on the edge of Sweet Apple Acres and things go awry, they are quite literally swept away into a world of darkness and ancient secrets, in a cave far beyond the reach of the Sun--where a relic of the past lives on and flourishes under the light of the Moon.

Deep within the heart of the earth, a colony of nocturnal ponies lives on who left Equestria in disgust after the defeat of the Night Mare at the hooves of Celestia. However, what will they think if they learn that their Princess has returned after a thousand years of waiting?

My attempt at a more serious 'Luna meets Neil Armstrong' storyline. What would really happen, both on the moon and on Earth? Inspired by 'The Eagle has Landed' by CyanBlackStone.

Princess Luna has found herself on a very different moon after some strange force interfered with her banishment. She doesn't know what the metal objects that keep orbiting and sometimes landing there are, but she wants to find out. Meanwhile, Neil Armstrong believes that being the first man on the moon will be the crowning achievement of his life. Hoo boy, is he ever in for a surprise.

Ever since her return, Luna's been hesitant to return to the Dreamscape, believing that ponies don't need her entering their dreams anymore. Finally deciding to take a chance, Luna comes across what appears to be a nightmare. Within lies a boastful mare, completely astounding the audience with her performance. However, things change when the act is over when Luna catches a glimpse of the pony within.

Can Luna reach past this mare's boastful exterior? Can she find the truth behind the act?

Princess Luna has seen it all in her time governing the dream realm. Anything can happen, and the surreal is everyday business for her. While it may be nothing new to her, a pony's psyche can suffer permanent damage after particularly bad nightmares. She must be careful when delving into something as complex and delicate as the mind.

This is meant to be a surreal kind of story with meaning behind the strangeness. Each chapter will kind of be its own story.

Tonight, nopony can tell Us off for the nostalgic use of the royal plural. For it is Nightmare Night, the most wondrous night there is! We have prepared for it rigorously, and face the coming 'celebrations' and 'festivities' with readiness!

Anyone pointing out that this story is a month late is going straight to the moon, you hear? Straight to the moon!

The Elements of Harmony are defeated and Nightmare Moon stands on Equestria's throne as their new Queen. Is Equestria doomed to suffer through night time eternal or will they be... perfectly fine? Twilight finds her new job as slave or "personal assistant" to her new ruler to be a bit maddening. But is this evil sarcastic queen really as bad as she originally believed? And just how many others are diabolical enough to cash in on the change in staff? Can Nightmare truly run a peaceful Equestria? Let me just answer all these questions right here in the description...
