I don't suppose Twilight has ever heard of limits? They're a rudimentary concept of Calculus that lets you essentially divide by zero when used correctly. In a nutshell, instead of dividing by zero itself(or any other specified number), you divide by two numbers close to zero, such as .1 and -.1, these numbers are known as the upper and lower limit respectively. You would then repeat the process by bringing the two numbers you are dividing by closer to zero(in this case), such as .01 and -.01.
You would continue this process until you can reliably assume what number you would theoretically get if you did divide by zero by looking at the answers you get from dividing by the upper and lower limit and what number they seem to be getting close to but never actually equal.

I think of magic working similar to programming lol. Or maybe even chemistry, making a new compound using elements that exist is a much simpler process than making a completely new element.

Well, if we are to be epistemologically nitpicky, then "completely newness" is not a property of an element --- it's a property of a brain making statement, so it can't be opposite to "that exist" ("element" here means actual thingie that exists in reality, not word or concept)
