Just seeing this now. Color me surprised. thought I had wound up on someone else's page by accident. I'll give it a look later.
Almost had me Tarb. Almost had me on this one you sunovabitch.
Went into it kinda not believing that I was about to read what I thought I was going to read. Especially from you, and especially concerning your main story.
Then you kinda gave it away pretty quickly with the old trick of one character hearing things and imagining them as something other than what's actually going on. Part of me was kinda disappointed, but I thought it was totally in-line with the rest of The Bridge's character.
My thought: If you really wanted to spin on a dime and throw us for a loop, you could have ended it with them actually.... doing it. THAT would have truly "subverted expectations" (valid use of the buzzword) and gotten a good laugh out of me. Use of a good misdirect at the very end to surprise us.
But I appreciate you not going there with your characters, a little short to have a bit of fun. Well played Tarb, well played.
