Well I'm definally late to the party here, through blind luck I manage to find it in its buried position.
Yeah their's a thing called a court,
And Ocellus had the legal principle of 'Innocent until Proven Guilty' Twilight also killing the Changeling that was apprehended at the time was an completely illegal.
So Twilight basically broke the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 11
That law doesn't apply in her nation, but she is criminally negligent of murdering a diplomatic creature that had ties with the King of Changelings, in fact she provided a casus belli for all of changling kind to go to war against the state of Equestria, this would be a major boon and propaganda victory for the antagonist leading the Changelings, giving her more followers and grubs willing to do everything she orders to 'avenge the fallen'.
It still doesn't matter if Twilight is the leader of the country of Equestria she still broke a law and is accountable to it in some similar universe not far away through a mirror.
Heck if Twilight had kept Ocellus alive they would've learned of the entire Changeling conspiracy going on in Ponyville and probably the rest of the world, how would they learn It? Torturing and blackmailing the Young Changeling obviously or use the methods of Hanns-Joachim Gottlob Scharff but knowing Twilight's in this universe she will be out for blood lust, so Ocellus would more than likely face horrific and brutal torture, even if she told them the truth and the element of honestly even confirmed it...
Well that's enough of me grilling Twilight and the Story.

The Karma coming into the ponies in full force is rightfully deserved thanks to the poor judgement of Princess Twilight Sparkle and the Prime suspect being dead before she could even have a chance to proclaim her defense.

Anyway nice story, you broke away from the trend of obviouesive Rarity being the culprit and came up with a more original idea with a bit of mystery sprinkled to the end of it with the nice twist.
Still Twilight snapping the neck of the creature she got to personally know for two years as the head Teacher of the School of Friendship without ANY questions whatsoever or hesitation at all was the biggest wtf monemt this story had.
Wait a second this side was suppose to be safe from me grilling Twilight.
Well Ah shucks, guess I'll leave before I find another thing to complain about Twilight.
