Being a Better Writer: Methods For Building Characters From Scratch · 6:39pm Last Monday
Welcome, writers, to another installment of Being a Better Writer! Today, we’ve got a solid writing topic that’s on a lot of minds out there, and in addition, very little news to talk about. Mostly because the only news any of you care about right now is “When is Axtara – Magic and Mischief going up for pre-order?”
The answer to that (outside of very, very soon) is “You’re going to see a post about it.” So get ready.
But without much more news than that to drop … We’re just going to dive right in to today’s topic.
So, methods for building characters. Now, I want to make something clear right from the get-go with this topic: We’re not going to present every method for creating characters here, because that’s a nigh-infinite list. Additionally, we’re not saying that any one method is right or wrong. The only real wrong ways to go about creating a character are the obviously wrong methods, such as A) not creating any at all or B) stealing someone else‘s character and filing the name off.
Yeah, don’t do that. But if you’re sitting down to create a story, what are some methods you can use to create characters to fill the positions in that story?
Hit the jump, and let’s dive in.
