Princess Celestia has invited you to the Grand Galloping Gala. Formal events were never your strong suit, but you are willing to leave your comfort zone for Tia's sake. Of course, even with your friends' warnings about what happened to them at the last Gala, you probably shouldn't expect everything to go as planned. With any luck, you won't draw too much attention to yourself, even if you are the only human in attendance.

Twilight is on the cusp of leading Equestria for a year. It's been an easy year with no major difficulties. No wars. No natural disasters. No villains.

At least until a villain from the far, far future appears in Twilight's throne room. She's escaping defeat at Twilight's hooves, with one thought in mind: she won't be stopped if Twilight doesn't exist in the future. And here's Twilight's past self, right in front of her. Easy.

Unfortunately, she's not the only villain with this idea.

After dying in a train crash, Twilight finds herself offered a deal by the Reaper: a game of chess for her soul. Twilight accepts, but there's something off about the game. Something she can't put her hoof on.

But the answer to that question is just perfect for who she is.

Being the only human in Equestria can get a little lonely. And, having a crush on the Princess of Friendship probably isn't making things any better, either. Could risking friendship with Twilight really be the best option?

Petty Power fully understands the responsibility of being a luggage inspector: he's there to make sure nopony brings anything onto the zeppelin which could interfere with Profit. And those nasty rumors about a potential sabotage attempt? Those have to be ignored, because nervous passengers don't board. Less ponies, less profit. Easy. And here's a group of young mares waiting to pass his checkpoint. Inflicting them with Rules and Regulations should be simple.

Petty is mere hours away from losing his job and leaving Equestria forever. But realistically, he probably deserves it.
