When the Gardens of Equestria were activated, many ponies believed the trying times were over and Equestria would become the paradise it had once been within a few short years.

As if the wasteland would give up that easily.

Monsters still roam the wasteland. Apex predators left unchanged from before the war. Mutant horrors born of balefire. Sadistic people whose hearts went black long ago... The Gardens did not kill. They did not reform. The Gardens did the one thing they were designed to do.

The Gardens cleaned up toxic waste everywhere their light could reach. No more, no less.

With radiation all but gone in most of the wasteland, taint entirely eliminated from Equestria's heartland, and much of the old farmland fertile once more, ponies everywhere banded together to take advantage of the world Pip healed... By forming large yet isolated settlements which over time joined one of two nations: The New Canterlot Republic, or the Herd.

These two ideologically opposed nations have clashed for over a decade. Border skirmishes are frequent. Black ops have been preformed by both sides. All out war has nearly broken out several times.

You can take the waste out of the wasteland. It's much harder to take it out of the wastelanders.

It is into this politically charged world that a newcomer arrives. A zebra from a remote northern kingdom, separated from Equestria for these many years by a megaspell induced winter that is at last dying down. A pity she arrives just as the other newcomers are enacting their bid for power.

The Alicorns of Equestria are chosen by fate, those not actively seeking the power but called to that duty.  Those that try and force that power are doomed to corruption, becoming the dangers that Alicorns eventually have to defeat.

Arcane Gears’ life set her on the path to corruption.  As an Earth Pony she is full of jealousy for those that can fly or cast magic.  Later in life she nearly succeeds, but an identity crisis may prove fatal.

Very minor spoilers:  I’m not a fan of all-powerful characters, so if you’re worried this is some power fantasy, it isn’t.  I wanted to portray the weight of gaining great power as heavy as it deserves to be.

Through corporate greed and the pillage of the land, companies have marketed magic to the masses. Promising the gifts of Enhanced Magical Prowess in every aspect of your life and even non-natural born gifts through science and magical extraction. Gone are the blue skies and rainbows, long since replaced by brown and shades of grey. Dingy, an earth pony mare, blends perfectly into the landscape around her, largely unnoticed by many and always overlooked.

Being short of hoof with her finances, she submits to clinical trials for extra money to pay rent with Spark Industries. Little did she know that this simple cash grab would turn into such a tangled web of disaster. Leaving behind anypony she ever knew she is sent far into the future, where things were not what she expected at all.

Finding solace in the only voice she has, Dingy struggles to keep her sanity in a world with nopony in it and somehow manage to survive and find her way back home.

Jibbly Jot, simply Jot if you know what's good for you, is the tough as nails, muckraking, investigative journalist for the Junction City Tribune. Her stories have overturned slaver plots and rooted out corruption. She was hot on the trial of her latest story, an exposé of Congresswoman Coriander of the NCR, when her home burned down erasing her evidence and killing her daughter. Out for revenge and with nothing left to loose, Jot kills Coriander in cold blood and is sentenced to death.

Then the unexpected happens, on the day of her execution mysteriously no one in the wasteland is permitted to die, no matter how injured they are. Having already been executed, she can no longer be held by the NCR. Stripped of her citizenship and effectually blacklisted from the city-state she has nothing left to do, but what she does best: find answers. With the rights of first report going to the Junction City Tribune once she finds them.

This story is canon to the Audio Files Series fics, but is not directly connected and reading those fics is not needed to read this fic. It is also formatted like a regular story and not like the other fics in the Audio Files Series.

After a mirror portal field trip being conducted by Luna goes terribly wrong, Ocellus finds herself trapped in a strange palace far from home. That palace, once abandoned, is now infested with a hive of love-starved changelings intent on using her only way home as a means to invade her world.

This story is set after "The End of the End" (but before "The Last Problem"), and is purely a My Little Pony story. Atom Smasher is a special kind of pony. She lies, she cheats, she steals, she stockpiles explosives and relishes their liberal application, and she's one of the good guys. She earned the praise of the locals after becoming the accidental hero of the wastes around her home, but once the day is saved, being the hero is boring. She needs a new adventure.

One day, a letter arrives, inviting her to join her brother in San Palomino on a search for their missing dad.

She doesn't remember having a brother.

It is, however, just what the doctor ordered. Now, if only this desert wasn't so damn hot...

Hello, I'm Static Spark. I'm what is known as a Cortexaphan Ghoul. I don't know all the science behind it, but it gives me a unique power. Cortexaphan ghouls are a rare breed, not even the Wasteland Survival Guide mentions us. I know of 16 like me, one's my adoptive aunt Screwloose and another is some jerk who did a lot of bad things to her, but I want to meet the rest. I want to find where I belong, but Shoeshine and Sundae treat me like a little kid and won't let me. I'm 225-years-old, but all they see is the 13-year-old I was when I became a ghoul. My only option is to run away for my own sanity. Don't worry, I'll have my good friend Aglow to watch my back. I'll even document my journey like Screwy and Shoey did. Maybe one day it will air on the radio like theirs did.

At first he went along with them out of fear, until they did something beyond the pale: give the Zebras Megaspells. Finally willing to go to the MoM he contacts his second cousin, twice removed, Pumpkin Cake. With her help he begins to collect evidence on his shady in-laws...possibly at the cost of his own life.

This fic is canon with the events of Unscrewed and Brittleshine's Quest, but reading those fics are not necessary outside of events that are in the epilogue.
