Esle Ynopemos

Was that me? Or was it... somepony else?

T

Rainbow Dash was loyal. She would never betray the love of her life.

Applejack was honest. She knew that if she sensed something wrong, she would speak up.

This is a story of the promises we keep, and the ones we break. Of the truths we tell, and the ones we keep silent.

Rated Teen for brief language and some adult themes. Big thanks to Loving Tolerance for giving this a look-over and telling me what works and what doesn't. One of these days, I might even listen to him!

Too many people go for sad. Bittersweet is always better.

This post needs more upratings.

...so does this story, come to think about it... :derpytongue2:

It makes me sad that I don't see many of these type of stories

Awwww. I almost cried. Almost.

Beautifully done. A tried and true recipe right there. Sure, AppleDash is a bit overdone imo but it's sweet nonetheless. Have an upvote. :moustache:

That's love right there. It's not easy and not always pretty but when it's strong it lasts.

“I said we'd make it through this together,” Applejack replied, pulling a blanket off of the bed. “I never said ya weren't sleepin' on the couch.” :ajsmug: bahahaha!! i like that line.

1867433 AppleDash is overdone. I'm not a big fan of the pairing, myself (Apple Pie OTP :ajsmug:), but the themes of what their elements represent matched too closely to what I wanted to convey.

I'll have to try harder next time. I'll have those tears some day!

1867391 That's the real reason for the [Sad] tag.

1867540 The key to tears is length. You gotta hammer the reader over and over with emotional stimuli. One doesn't quite cut it usually.

Perfect example: Past Sins. WARNING SPOILERS. Scene where Celestia is taking Nyx away. Whole thing was sad, but I kept a straight face. And then: MOMMY!! I cried like no tomorrow.

If you want tears though, I've got a new story right above yours. Perhaps you might give it a spin.

1867549 I know but most aren't about cheating

I'm gonna be honest, yes, AppleDash, as you said, is overrated; however, it is still awesome. But hey, that just gives the writers (and all other medias) the challenge and more opportunities to be original.

I love what you did in this story; that was nice to what you did with their elements.. It conveys their weaknesses and their strengths, mostly during one of the most critical mistakes that someone could do to their spouse. Despite Dash's mistake, Applejack's love, strength, and stubbornness even, (and eventually Dash's strong love returned for AJ) shows that they could do anything as long as they're together (and how good this ship is, heh).

Oh great, what did I just write? I suck at words, but this story is definitely amazing. Liked and faved. :ajsmug::heart::rainbowdetermined2:

P.S. Mini hoofbump for ApplePie? :pinkiehappy:

1867540
i agree appledash is overdone thats why i hate it so much. either way this story was by you so i liked it. i like uncommon pairings too apple pie is one of them.

1867799 Heh, I'm probably not doing myself any favors badmouthing the ship I just posted a story for. I don't really dislike AppleDash; it has its merits, and, like any ship, when written well it is enjoyable (I do hope this story falls into that category). It can be fun to crack fun at a ship that's on the top, however, when my own favorite pairing is so desperately obscure.

That said, I hope I treated the pairing with due respect here. To my mind, this story is less about how AJ and Dash are Meant to Be (TM), and more about what all one commits to when they say "I do." Like 1867443 said, it's not pretty, it's not easy. But if it's strong, it can survive the worst of trials.

I would just like to close by saying Apple Pie is a superior ship in every possible way.

1867913 Hey, I like ApplePie, too. Despite it's "weirdness," it's still nice to see Applejack and Pinkie as a couple.

As for AppleDash, Applejack and Rainbow Dash would be the type of people (ponies in this case) to have a lasting, strong relationship, and end up as a happy married couple that could go thick and thin no matter what, despite all obstacles. They'd hit everything together head on, literally and metaphorically.

That was really good. Cover art was really good, too.

1868157 Thank you! I do my best to draw my cover art as relevant to the tone and content of the story as I can make it. It's good to get a compliment on it.

1867847 I appreciate your faith in me, but I am certainly capable of poor writing. Best to judge a story without regard to who wrote it.

Nicely done. Short, but to the point

You know, it's stories like this that show me there is vitality left in Appledash. Stories like this twist and bend my idea of what their relationship should/might be, and yet they always leave me feeling a fantastic sense of understanding, as if a new door has been opened to me, a new passage I've yet to discover within this ship.

And it's fantastic.

This story deserves a whole hell of a lot more attention than it's gotten.

1867847
If you want to go for "overdone", Twidash has at least twice the amount of fics on the site than AppleDash does. It's the most popular by a massive margin. AppleDash remains second, sure, but I can't help but think it odd seeing that people complain about AppleDash being overdone when TwiDash is much, much more prevalent :P

As for the story: excellent. It captures the two very well - and they *would* get through problems like this together. Unless Dash did it again, then AJ would probably indeed throw her out. But Dash is able to learn from her mistakes... so she shouldn't. Especially with AJ's support. :ajsmug:

1869718
Thats true Twidash is pretty common so is Fluttermac and Sparity either way i find all pairings cute especially this story it portrays real life problems that couples go through every day. its hard to see Dash cheat but she isn't perfect so she going to make mistakes at least unlike most cheaters Dash wont do it again.:scootangel:

Brilliant story, well done. I love how you managed to give it a 'happy ending' that still stuck within reason ability. I loved it :)

1869588 I'm glad to have lent a fresh perspective. And truth be told, I'm pleased as punch with what attention this has gotten so far. It's an uncomfortable premise; there's a reason you don't see a whole lot of stories in which one of the Mane 6 cheats on the other. I would like to think they have strong enough bonds and enough respect for one another that a thing like this wouldn't happen. But ponies (and by extension of metaphor, people) are not perfect. Mistakes can happen, and it's important to know that the pieces can be picked up again.

1869718 That would be an interesting (if depressing and heartbreaking) sequel to this if Dash did it again. Whether AJ righteously tosses her out on her plot, or loses her nerve and settles into a relationship with somepony who clearly doesn't respect her the way she deserves, it would definitely warrant the [Tragedy] tag at that point either way.

But like you said, Dash learns from her mistakes (It pleased me to see how much she had matured in the new Wonderbolt Academy episode. You could see her putting to practice the lessons she'd learned over the previous two seasons).

1870399
Oh, definitely. I'm not saying to write it (in fact, don't, or some ponies will come after you! :twilightangry2::flutterrage: ). But Dash does learn - even in season 2, Hurricane Fluttershy. How she deals with her more, well, maturely than she might have in the past (Dragonshy), etc.

1870428 Incidentally, I blame you and your silly contest for this thing's existence. I know it doesn't meet the length requirements to enter, but I wouldn't have been thinking of ideas for an AppleDash fic in the first place if not for that AppleDash contest.

1870492
All according to plan! :scootangel:

1867799: P.S. Mini hoofbump for ApplePie? :pinkiehappy:

:ajsmug: /)

1871845 (\ And here I thought you'd keep me hanging.

Oh, this is AWESOME! Love the story, and nice writing!
:ajsmug::rainbowkiss:

Loved it, And that ending was the perfect mix of hilarious and beautiful

Wow. AJ's a better mare than I am a person... I knew this, but hay. :ajsmug:
Well written little story that hit a little close to home, but I still liked it.

1897746 I would like to believe that if the same things happened between me and my spouse, we would be able to handle it like this, but I suppose you can't know what you'd do until you're really in that position.

Hope it didn't hit too too close to home; if it did, I'm sorry. :fluttershysad:

1897758
Oh, I didn't mean to make Fluttershy sad, now everypony will feel sad! Nah, reading this wasn't that bad. I'll probably have doubts and second thoughts the rest of my life. Can't let it stop me from trying to enjoy things, or else it really WAS a waste of a decade. :pinkiecrazy:
And I still enjoyed your writing, as usual.

Well, I guess I should tell you why I don't like this, even if it doesn't help and you probably don't want to hear it.

I hate to say, but this is just plain boring and bleh, even for AppleDash. I'm going to say you have no real idea what you're doing with Rainbow Dash. The whole premise is as out of character as "Pinkie just made fun of someone until they cried: go." In addition to, what is to me, a severe misunderstanding of your lead character, it's just emotionally flat. It's a real disappointment considering your last fic.

2046487 Thank you for your honesty. It does help, even if it won't help this story specifically. Dash is practically my polar opposite in terms of personality, so it makes sense I would get her characterization wrong. I suppose I didn't manage to compensate for this with revisions and rewrites quite like I did with Pinkie in SaP. Also, like you said, the flaw is embedded into the whole premise.

I'm sorry to disappoint, but I guess they can't all be winners, eh?

This is a nice story, but there are just two things that ruin this story for me. Number one, I don`t care how much my spouse loves me or how much I love them, if they cheat on me then we`re done. Nopony in their right mind would stick with somepony who cheats even if they`re sorry. Number two, this story is far too short. I still love this story though!

2758009 I guess it's a matter of opinion, but to me true love does concours just about everything except maybe hanious crimes or flat out lying for the longest time. It's not like I don't understand your point, sure as shit, me and my wife would be on the couch for some time, and it would take a lot of time to get past it. But I don't believe we would break up over it. I may be wrong, but i see it as a promise. A big important promise, but a promise no less, and we as humans are not perfect and this can break promises unknowingly. What we have here is an accident, an accident that's sure to scar, but an accident no less. As long as it doesn't happen again, it shouldn't matter, they love each other and they care about one another. No need to end years of happiness for one night of stupidity.

4232519 I guess. Love is strong. I just don't think I'd ever be able to forgive them or trust them again. Although, I've never been in a relationship, so what do I know?

4233214 oh I never said that I could very well trust them again, but I could still love them. You can still be married and love someone and have a little bit of trust issues in that particular department.

And relationships come, just have to be patient and let things happen on their own.

4233341 What I meant was, I need to wait three years before I'm even allowed to date. :derpytongue2:

4233381 My point still stands....God you make me feel old.....

4236346 I now measure my age not in years but in number of times people say things that suddenly make me realize how old I am.

4236572 I am inclined to follow this practice.
