One interesting aspect of the Season Nine Finale is that Discord actively advised the Princesses to punish the League of Evil with petrification, which is to say the exact same punishment he endured for over a thousand years. By "actively," I mean that he stepped forward and decided to speak to them of his own initiative.
It's arguable whether Tirek or Discord are scarier.
Tirek is definitely more brutal than Discord. But pre-reform Discord tended to be subtly nasty -- he would twist and trick Ponies into betraying their friends and true nature. That may actually be more frightening.

The characters of Honey Tongue, The Sun Mare and The Twister (the most deeply nested major story within Divine Jealousy and the Voice of Reason) are young by modern Equestrian standards. They are born to and living in a Bronze Age (TL 1) culture, and their lives are harsh, dangerous and cheap by the standards of Equestria's Industrial Age (TL 5, with medical tech at 6+) culture.

It was almost as if the general Fan Love for Discord ad for a Fluttercord love affair requires Fan Hate for any potential rival for her attentions, let alone romantic favors.

I finished reorganizing my chapters. Don't worry -- nothing's actually been lost, but some of the parts of the original overly-long Chapter 13 "Waiting for the Princesses" have been moved up beyond my publication horizon. I think you'll find that the character development of the Mane Five Minus Twilight Plus Spike don't clog the story as badly now.
I am going to reorganize Divine Jealousy and the Voice of Reason. Chapter 13, "Waiting for the Princesses," which is at present a huge flow clog at over 12,000 worlds of in-action, is going to be split up and put between the chapters of Luna's Tale. This will also keep the two story threads more or less synchronized in time. This is going to mean that a lot of false New Chapters posted will be generated. Sorry about that.
Watching Rescue at Midnight Castle (1984) (the very first My Little Pony adventure) again led me to think about the backstories of the Dream Valley Ponies (the ones who the Rainbow would grant emmortality to, some of whom would survive some 3500 years to witness the birth of Discord, Celestia and Luna).
