My thoughts on Episode 3 of Season 3 (contains spoilers) + first notice about future plans for stories · 6:37pm Nov 17th, 2012
Would've done this little sooner, but got little sidetracked commenting/reading, and then eating breakfast. I was gonna do this for last week's premiere, but I felt it was unnecessary. However, this time I think I HAVE to speak up? So don't forget my initial feelings.
Well, not sure WHAT I was expecting from this episode, going in. I did think it would be all kinds of crazy, being a Pinkie Pie-centered episode, but also kind of FUN-ny! Sorry, couldn't resist, if you've already seen the episode.
Anyway, the beginning was... weird. I mean, Twilight having difficulty turning an apple into a different fruit? That was weird, cause at end of Season 1, she turned an apple into a HORSE-drawn carriage, for pony's sake! And then the moment when Pinkie interrupted and caused her to turn animals into oranges was... disturbing. But eh, not really the focus of the episode. Was kinda funny how she kept jumping to try and hang out with her closest friends, though was honestly expecting her to want to hang with EVERY pony in Ponyville, since everypony's her friend, y'know?
And then when she interrupted Twilight again (as I said oranges before) and mentioned the pool, was a bit surprised, I guess. Found it odd that she was in the Everfree Forest(?) and also referred to Granny(?) Pinkie from Season 1 Mare in the Moon - Part 2 episode, as Nana Pinkie if one and the same, but eh, minor points again. It was kind of good to see I guess, even if not right away entirely, that the mirror pool Pinkie wasn't a carbon copy and had problems remembering ponies' names (like saying Applejohn, Fluttershutter, and Applesauce, instead of correct ones) and how to act and such. Was kinda facepalm-worthy when Pinkie blurted out about her mirror copy to Dashie, even if expected skepticism and wasn't disappointed. And then, when mirror Pinkie reacted after Fluttershy's picnic with her animals, I could tell it was gonna get insane. Especially how she reacted like she was claustrophobic. And then, the new mirror Pinkies replicated themselves without a second thought! And them shouting "FUN FUN FUN" repeatedly was hilarious, even if a bit weird, heh. And then the chaos! Was hilarious how Rainbow all of a sudden believed Pinkie, and then onto next scene, where they ruined Applejack's raising of the new barn. And of course, who knows what else, before the entire town decided to show up at Twilight's. Kinda figured when Spike stumbled upon that secret compartment, would have the answers they needed. Hoped that the real Pinkie would be easy to tell apart from the rest, as she wasn't exactly the only one causing wanton (if that's the right word) destruction and saying the word "FUN" repeatedly, but guess they'd make other ponies skeptical, if so.
Felt disappointed that Twilight, despite being my favorite pony and maybe knowing her well by this point, had little faith in Pinkie when she saw how upset/still she was. Cause of course, I could understand why Pinkie was feeling that way, though sucks that she even questioned HERSELF and again, how Twilight had little faith in that it could be the real Pinkie (again, considering she was the only one who wasn't spouting one word and causing Ponyville's destruction kinda). And then, Pinkie's solution was a bit unexpected, but I guess so her, heh. Was a bit surprised to see that the Apples, especially Apple Bloom, could knock the mirror Pinkies for a shove. Almost expected the real one to be missing, but of course, Dash had to find/bring her in... again, doing such an OOC thing for herself, drawing frowny faces by scuffing her hoof/hooves in the dirt. Twilight's solution of watching paint dry was a bit out of left field as well, but I guess the best thing to tell fakes from the real, even if seemed a bit impractical. Spike's gung-ho attitude quickly shown as changed to one of boredom was a bit unexpected. And then, the zapping that started! Showing the frog-orange and one Pinkie turning her face into like, a look-alike of MLP Generation 1(?) from what I've seen of videos on Youtube, etc. Hadn't expected that from commercial I saw where did that in front of Rarity and Fluttershy, but anyway. Not to mention the one that grew fingers, whoa! And almost thought when Twillight mass-zapped 'em, that her horn had melted off, before saw it didn't when she blew on it. And was happy for Rainbow on getting the final fake Pinkie's attention, when it was down to two! Since had thought it would be difficult to distract one, if they weren't aware that it was down to just two of 'em at that point.
Am confused by Pinkie's bed/room being downstairs, if wasn't an inconsistency, assuming the Cakes don't live in Sugarcube Corner as well, since they had/have that room for their twins on the upper-floor, but minor point once more. But glad to see that they sealed off the mirror pool, even if doubted Pinkie (or anypony, least in Ponyville) would ever use it again, but you never know. Anyway, good episode imo! Though not looking forward to next week's, from what I know of it... but hopefully, it'll still be good and possibly story-worthy, if ponies here decide to write stories about Apple Bloom's (though I'd imagine also AJ and Big Mac's as well) cousin, assuming it has a happy ending and he doesn't stay a Diamond Tiara-esque pony, from what I gathered of how he plans on acting.
And on a final note, DID start on my first story a few weeks prior, but haven't written anything since, being distracted with keeping up to updates on tracked/favorited stories on this site and gaming a bit, though not on Pokemon Black 2 like I got for birthday last month. Old game I hadn't played for few years before last week or two, called Megaman Battle Network 5 Double Team DS (as I used to be big on playing the MMBN games, some years ago, even if was only on emulators as had them only as ROMs, except for this one cause wasn't aware of possibility of DS emulators/ROMs until within last couple years). Might be good news for somepony currently watching me, as it's a certain something I let slip to him, not to spoil the surprise, but figured might as well say while writing this blog, as have maybe been thinking about or meaning to. Hopefully, will have it up before much longer if stop reading and focus, even though several stories been meaning to finish in favorites that've long been finished or haven't updated in bit, needing/wanting to reread them before new chaps come out, etc.
