Amazon really makes me mad. · 2:37pm Apr 1st, 2020
So, after finding out that my e-book version wasn't updating as intended, I did a little digging. Apparently the little "Update book" button is a flat out lie, because they only update if you physically call them and tell them about it.
Also, they won't update it if you make too many, or too little changes, because apparently that requires a full on unpublishing, and republishing under a new edition. I mean, seriously, why even have it, then, if it effectively does nothing?
Anyway, I'm going to be giving them a call today, and see if I can get it sorted out. Wish me luck!
Edit: In the meantime, you'll be able to enjoy the updated master document here:
What I've Become.
Good luck my dude!
Honestly, the big tech companies have gotten way too lumbering and authoritarian lately. They keep pulling stunts like this, where they try to micro-manage people using their platforms, usually for dumb reasons.
Alrighty then, thanks for this. I know it is a fools hope, but I hope this the last issue you have with publishing your work. GL and keep on with your amazing stories! Cus humans should always be SPACE ORCS! WAAAGH!!!
Oh look, more shit from Amazon. I haven't done business with them since they refused to replace their criminally underdesigned kindle (and no, that's not an exaggeration, I looked up the law and have the engineering expertise authoritatively say they broke it), and I keep hearing about this kind of policy shit from them. They really need to be broken up, or at the very least we need an e-book startup aimed at independent authors like you to give a real alternative.
And they charge you to publish a new edition on their platform?
5233843 No, they just take a portion of the profit made with each sale. It's free just to put the book on the platform.
Doesn't change the fact that they lied, though. I distinctly remember in the 'how to' section that they said that I could update the digital copies, and keep my readers up-to-date with any changes that I made. I had to basically look under a rock to find where they said that 'we don't actually update it, you need to call us when you want to do that.'

Well that's just lazy and inconvenient for them, not to mention yourself. You'd think that they'd automate the process more. They have warehouses run by autonomous robots but can't update a text file in a database without a phone call to an actual person?
How you been by the way?
5251716 I'm getting along. Been working on my second book, but I keep running into writers blocks. I blame DOOM.

But glad to hear you've got a second book going. What always helps me with writer's block is... some reading.
