A three arced story that begins slowly as partially Comedy and Slice of life and rotates more towards Adventure and Dark in later chapters.

Some school fillies have to deal with school crushes. Others with bullies. Sometimes they have to deal with both. But no filly has ever had to deal with an Evil Tyrant being bound to their shadow and have the power to control their every action. This, of course, seems to be no big deal for Sweetie Belle who seems to even enjoy the stallion's company. Though the feelings aren't mutual. The small filly reminds the old king too much of a filly he used to know... Though it's strange the only place he'd seen her before are in these strange dreams of his. Recollections of a past he can't remember.

Perhaps Sweetie Belle will awake in him that version of himself before he was a Tyrant. Before he was labeled evil. A time from when he was a father. Perhaps she will help him forgive.

Darkness is said to be evil. Uncaring, brutal, and above all else dangerous. With two companions making their way to the darkest corner of Equestria where the pony of shadows was born, Andrews and Sythe must seek its help. But will it be willing to help? Or will it betray them like it has many others before them?

As they learn how to use dark arts, Shadow Demon decides to test each element of Harmony to see if they are truly ready to fight what’s coming. Are they or will they just become another lost cause to him?

Stygian, still haunted by his past, looks deep inside himself to find out exactly what led him to become the Pony of Shadows. If friendship really is magic, how is it that his friends couldn't have saved him without Twilight and her friends intervening? How did his inner darkness convince him to turn evil? Was he really so wrong in what he did if there is no light without darkness? This origin story provides all these questions with an answer.

Newspapers across the nation printed the headline: "A Star Has Fallen." Academies everywhere had a day of mourning. The princesses themselves gathered to bid the Bearded One farewell.

And Stygian found himself thinking about something he'd spent more than ten years trying to ignore.

Stygian's side of the story was never told. He was never called Stygian. He was called a monster.

It was incredibly rare to find a pony so pathetic and deprived of love and affection that they’d turn to somepony like him for comfort. Love, Stygian realised, and everypony’s selfish desire for it, had bestowed him with a sense of normalcy.

Note: In this story, a little bit of darkness is still in Stygian, becoming some sort of a negative second personality that influences him.
