[Comedy][Adventure]
This is a continuation of the two hundred twenty-first chapter of Tired Old Man's Letters from an Irritated Princess (912 of 129,729 words at time of writing, [Comedy][Alternate Universe][Slice of Life])
SPOILERS FOR AN IRRITATED PRINCESS: A collection of Princess Celestia's responses to Twilight's friendship letters that evolves to encompass Celestia's correspondence with her drinking buddies, wrangling the childish clones of Luna and herself, and avoiding the Cult of Pink as best she can. This chapter in particular mentions a time that Twilight Velvet drank an entire bar's worth of liquor.

Amid the cackling, swirling arcane lights, and sourceless mariachi music, Twilight Sparkle stood firm in the certainty that she knew what to do. "Spike. Take a letter."
"Seriously?" Spike ducked under a stream of blue flame. "Now?"
Twilight nodded and erected a shield just in time to intercept an empty bottle. "Dear Dad,
"I don't wish to alarm you, but Mom is floating in the middle of a thaumic maelstrom, speaking in either tongues or really bad Sponish. Please advise.
"Your loving daughter,
"Twilight Sparkle"
Spike sent the scroll mere moments later. "For the record, I just wrote 'Mom's drunk and crazy. Please help.'"
Twilight bit her lip as she watched her mother's glowing eyes turn the amber hue of Horsé Cuervo. "That should be enough. Hopefully."
A belch later, Spike unrolled the response so fast, he nearly tore it. "Reminds me of our honeymoon," he read.
Twilight facehoofed. "For Celestia's sake, Dad."

My new headcanon is that that honeymoon is how Twilight and Shining's parents came to the attention of Celestia in the first place. And that Celestia's personal involvement in that insanity was so much fun that she decided on the spot to put all their future children on the path to royalty.
How this ties in to Sunset Shimmer's exile is left as an exercise for the reader.
