At worst, he's investigating, but he might also just be a
Brony"Enthusiast" if his quip about seeing so many pony bots has any merit.I'm curious if these pony bots were programmed with an equivalent of the 3 Rules of Robotics. With Midnight being self-aware and obviously not following those rules (going for the throat, eh? Clever girl) she would have the element of surprise for at least one encounter... but as she thought, it has deadly consequences for her because humans don't like being attacked and tend to
kill"put down" a would-be predator (just ask the local wildlife). A rouge robot would garner zero sympathy from everyone except maybe the Railroad.-Oh wait, this isn't Fallout. Wrong game.
... Quite frankly, I'm with Midnight. Taking this guy out would be the pragmatic thing to do. Now you know you're under active threat. You do what you have to to protect yourself and yours. Whatever it might take.

What active threat? Hold your horses for a sec and actually read what he said- he asked a few questions, deduced she was 'unverified' and then said that he 'might be able to help'. I'm thinking he's one of the original designers (considering that he lives nearby the place that apparently dumped a whole bunch of pony parts in the back of a junkyard) and has a different view towards his creations than the cold businessmen who took it over and started churning out soulless 'product'.
He actively asks her if John 'treats her well'. That's not a question some soulless businessman or by-the-book inspector-type would pull out.
I LOVE this story. Ain't no other way to say it. It's great.

This guy instantly rachets up the tension because he's being so nonthreatening and seemingly helpful while also knowing too much for comfort.
Either his offer of help is genuine - suggesting there exists something out there dangerous enough to require help against - or his offer is a ruse - making him that most scary and dangerous kind of antagonist: a predator that understands and takes advantage of people's innate desire to trust in the goodness of others.
Indeed, I'm desperately hoping he's a good guy, myself. I might absolutely fall for it, if he should be scheming.
And in either case, he definitely knows more than either Midnight or John would want him to.
I wonder how many other people can claim that?
Teddy is retired, eh? And very knowledgeable as well!
