Quote of the year, bud.
Well, finally. This is a huge step towards recovery. I really like this story, but Midnight constantly, cruelly and unreasonably insults John. I don't condemn Midnight. She lived in terrible shit all her life and managed to survive. Midnight didn't know any better. She's hurt and still scared. I understand.
I just began to fear that Midnight had lost her empathy forever. I'm glad that's not the case. I'm glad Midnight realizes that her behavior sucks. I hope she'll stop snapping eventually.
And yes, Midnight was very, very lucky to have John. He showed compassion for that butt. Even when it did not bring material benefits. He tolerates her. John may have a "thick skin," but that can't last long.
Thank you for your creativity. It is very good.
First of all....
Starting with frozen food, then refrigerated items.... Then dry foods and the rest? Your cold items will be "room temp" items by the time you reach the checkout if you have a lot of shopping to do.
But John is usually by himself, so it probably works for him.
Second...
I fucking lolled.
Ah. I wasn't expecting an encounter with a pony bot, and neither was Midnight. Better formulate a plan for the next one, I guess.
You know what would be interesting? Midnight, on their outings, constantly bumps into this Twilight bot (oe others) and starts opening their minds with the thoughts of more free will and not being seen as property by humans.
Kinda like Bicentenial Man, in essence, only Midnight is helping other pony bots be more real.

Hehe I knew I'd find you on this fic sooner or later
Have to wonder if there is a way to distinguish between different bots. I would assume if the right chip was implanted they could tell each other apart at a glance, but otherwise I would think it impossible unless their mane or tail is styled or they have particular clothes/accessories. Wonder if that will throw Midnight at some point.
Well, Twilibot seems, oddly enough, quite adequate in relation to Midnight.
But this is probably because she is the princess of friendship and should be friends with everyone.
It’s strange that her owner decided that Midnight was Nightmare Moon, and not, for example, Luna.
Yes, on the one hand, it was unlucky, but on the other hand, Midnight is already going out to the people more calmly.

In one of the fanfictions, the ponybots had a name from the series, and the owner's last name. They differed by last name.
Another glorious chapter!
To my chock and Horror. Pony racism(?) exist! Just because Midnight looks a certain way doesn't mean that she is evil and that you should discriminate based on what character she looks like.

So uh... that's actually how I do my shopping, lol. On top of a 30 minute drive back home since I live in the middle of nowhere. Really doesn't make a difference though - frozen stuff takes a while to thaw. Even ice cream.

I'm not that creative. Bots really aren't particularly important to this tale. There's a much more interesting interaction on the horizon.
That kid clearly did not read Past Sins
11812507
Does that mean there wont be a reoccuring bot character in the story?

Nope. On occasion I've pondered another meeting between Midnight and the Twilight Sparkle bot - but the idea has never blossomed and the inspiration has not struck.
11812712
Would be interesting to see her and a Celestia bot. Lol
Eeeeee. So gooood!
Gold line right here, real comedy club type stuff.
Better not show Midnight any Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives clips. She'll be demanding to go out to try these foods if she sees all Flavortown has to offer.
Or perhaps do show her for that very reason

I both love and hate that show because I know I'll be lucky to eat at even a handful of those places in my lifetime.
Now, that was funny! 😝

I ship it.
I definitely ship it.
For our first time getting to see Middie interact with another pony, I feel bad for her, though I'm glad John is able to help her out.
Why would they have RFID scanners in places anyways? And how would it differentiate from someone with a prosthetic to a genuine robot? Indicates a bit of dystopia methinks. Normally RFID is used to confirm identification, not sluice out the legitimacy of random objects a la border patrol, especially in the setting of an average grocery store.
More likely they're thinking the "scanners" are the typical theft deterrent detection stations that work on a completely different system than RFID, and are accidentally being paranoid.
The idea that Midnight just caused a tweak of dissonance in the Twilight bot is amusing, especially since it's extremely unlikely we'll ever see it again to see what effects the odd encounter produced.

There are stores out there that use RFID to tag their products. Since pony bots are made by EquisCo, perhaps they also chose to use RFID.
11895568
Do grocery stores offer robots off-the-shelf activated? How would they detect one that had the tag removed? Is there really going to be that high-level security in a grocery store? It's just not logical.
Remember the ID part of RFID: it's for identification, not detection. They necessarily need to properly detect the thing and then decide if identification is necessary, which your average store or restaurant just isn't likely to expend the requisite money on. Could you imagine a guard standing at the exit waving a wand at every pony bot that passes through? And will then stop it for detention if their little handheld scanner doesn't react? Why? They're asset protection, not law enforcement, and furthermore would have no reason to make an arrest without further evidence of wrongdoing; RFID isn't perfect especially on moving targets, so every door would become a border control stop if it didn't scan correctly or quickly, which just won't happen in any environment that isn't already dystopic.
