Well, with the exception of one evening each year.

When good ol' nature says that it's the time of year for mares to be ready to reproduce, most have prepared more than enough methods of dealing with their urges one way or another. For most, it's about a week or two of mild discomfort. For alicorns, it's about six hours of uncontrollable urges and pure instinct.

And seeing as how you are the husband of the now-retired Celestia, you have every reason to fear for your life tonight.

There is no clop in this story, I swear.

Night Light: husband, hobbyist astronomer, and dad of two.

He always knew his incredibly talented and powerful children would have equally amazing lives & adventures. It's just that he's only now starting to really realize it. Shining Armor is already a young adult, off to the Academy. But Twilight...

Twilight is still young. They can play, and watch the stars together, and he can teach her about galaxies and nebulae and comets. He still has time, they still have time.

But it's starting to feel like there isn't enough.

Princess Celestia and Princess Luna have been watching over Equestria for many centuries. They've seen cities rise and fall, empires grow and collapse. They've guided their subjects through the ages better than anypony could hope for.

So why, then, do they feel so alone at the end of time?

Twilight's been having weird, unfamiliar urges ever since she became an alicorn. Like an intense desire to grow flowers, or the fact she can't stop chewing on her wings when she's distracted. As it turns out, you can't just suddenly inherit the magic of all three pony tribes without getting the instincts to match, and instincts can be a powerful thing. Doubly so when you're not used to them, and especially when they're telling you that your best friend with the gorgeous wings would make the perfect partner to share a nest with.

Wait, what was that last part?

Originally this was supposed to be a birthday gift for Celysus, but I fell in love with the idea so it's gonna be a full fic now. You can't stop me.

(Rated teen for mildly suggestive flirting)

I wasn't worried. I wasn't worried about anything specifically, I certainly wasn't worried about this. But it's okay. Accidents happen. Things can be fixed. Just wait. No matter how wrong it feels. No matter what's happening. Everything will be okay. Stay calm. It's all under control.

A short existential horror. Apple Bloom accidentally time travels a fraction of a second into the past, and realises she's the only one there. The world continues on around her, yet she's not in it.

The present is an infinitely thin span of time bordered by endless past and future. Everyone you know and love balances on that line. What if you fell off?
