So hey, I have a new story. Been writing it since I finished FotW, actually, but only recently started publishing.
It's kinda-sorta a spiritual sequel to FotW1, and the setting is inspired by Fallout: Equestria2.
As promised in my previous blog post, here's another one where I regroup some really nice art I got.
First, the thing I was waiting for to make this post.
You can think of this as a long wrap-up blog for FotW, where I share my final thoughts about it. I meant to post this months ago, but then started waiting for one commission.
While the comm itself is ready, I'm still waiting for the artist to post it. I think I'll just make this post now, then do a separate blog post with the fanart I got, and some of the stuff I've commissioned. Because yes, I'm narcissistic enough to commission art of my own story.

Before anything, I do wanna thank everyone who's been reading FotW, it means a lot every time I see the like counter go up, or a bookshelf notification. Or hell, even when there's just a sudden spike in views. I pour a lot of effort into the fic, and knowing people are enjoying it always makes my day.
Like I said in the title, next chapter is gonna be a few days late. Fic isn't dead, I just missed my deadline.
The next few chapters should be on time, since they're pretty much all written (though still in need of ironing out). The reason 24 in particular is gonna be late is because it wasn't originally planned, so I essentially had less than two weeks to write and edit it.

So hey, it's been a couple of months, but just as I promised, FotW is back from its editorial break. I have three chapters ready to be published, and two more that are at the end of the rough draft process and will just need to go through the usual three editing passes.
Hey guys, just a small heads up. I will be taking a small break from publishing new chapters, just to give myself some more breathing room. I'll get the next chapter out on the second Sunday of April. I really need some extra time to get my thoughts in order since I don't want to rush the next 6 or so chapters.
Plus I wanna take time to remaster and maybe rewrite the 5-8 chapters, since the plot gets really stagnant at that point.

Before I get into the long format author's notes, let me talk a bit about meta stuff.
Firstly, I'm going to attempt having a consistent schedule, which means delaying chapters that are ready just to give myself time to write the following one.
FINALLY got around to the “Iron joins up with Banter’s group” plot point. In my original draft, that was meant to happen at the end of chapter 2. It only ended up happening so late because I was reluctant on using a contrivance (since it would have been 100% a coincidence that she finds them). In hindsight, I realise using a contrivance there would have been acceptable, since it would have been pretty necessary for her to meet them. Then it got pushed back to

I just finished the first round of edits on chapter 9 (14k words), so you can probably expect it to drop next week.
Chapter 10's rough draft is also almost finished, and I have plot planned for Chapter 11.
All in all, I'm making good progress.
Now for the unfortunate part. In 10 days I'm starting uni again, so writing might need to go on the backburner for a few months.

General info:
So, I’m running out of chapters I wrote. Chapter 8 is complete but awaiting editing (and I’m probably not gonna be able to post it next week, sorry), and Chapter 9… has encountered writer’s block issues. I think I should be able to finish it within a week though.
Chapter 7 AN:
I loved writing this chapter. Between the deeper glimpses in my protagonist’s messy mental, and the action scene, it was just a blast to write.
Oh no, we’re catching up! It’s probably a good thing, though, since that means I actually remember the thought process behind writing the chapters.
This one was written as a bridge between chapters, as an illustration of how the two of them slowly adapt to the wasteland life, and what they start doing during that time. It’s a nice, happy, chapter. Well except the happy end.
Since I was camping this weekend, I didn’t get to write the author’s notes right away, so here we go now (it’s also why I posted the chapter half a day late—I went to bed before I posted it)
Just like chapter 4, this was a big one. It originally was meant to be a short “they arrive in ND and meet some ponies there” chapter, but ended up being ~3 times as big as originally planned. Oops. At least that gave me the opportunity to double down on exposition.

Finally a chapter I'm proud of!
It's not that I hate my previous chapters, but this is around the point where my writing really started picking up in quality.
It's also in this chapter I realised I have a pretty good talent for writing horrifying scenes. At least imo, the last scene of the chapter was one of my favourite things I've written (at last this early, there's a scene in chapter 5 that I'm even prouder of, and scenes in chapter 7 that are really cool as well)
This was the last chapter without any social interactions, and I was very much glad to have finally reached it. Working with only Iron's headspace was getting very tedious, and in my opinion, being able to introduce more characters was a fuckin' godsent, and I think my next few chapters have tremendously improved in quality (and length; man are Ch4 and Ch5 phatbois)
I remember struggling like crazy to write this chapter. I mostly had issues describing the world around her without sounding like a broken record. I think the way it’s now is fine, but I’m still probably gonna rewrite it in the future. Just because I’ve improved so damn much.
This chapter underwent two rewrites, and I remember it was very messy to edit as a consequence. Oops.
My plan for this story’s publishing process is to release a chapter a week until I run out of content. Considering I’m currently finalising chapter 6, that’s about six or seven weeks of regular content.
Gonna try to see if I can commission an artist for cover art, though I’m not exactly sure what kind of themes I wanna represent without getting into spoiler territory.
