I'll be blunt. No flowery language or anything. I feel like my attention span is completely shot. I think I've been spending too much time on garbage sites like twitter and the like. I can barely focus long enough to read a book or a fic here much less write. I feel like I got the attention span of a 6 year old. I start to read a paragraph then go blarrrrrg and skip ahead to a different part of it like some impatient idiot going 'get to the good part already.'
Alright everyone, since I wanted to have a chapter by halloween I'm cutting a scene to give you what you want.
That said, when I get the next scene finished It'll be a micro chapter. its not supposed to be an opening scene because... you'll find out.
Because I think the new chapter was beneath my usual standards due to me rushing it out the door (and because it took me so long to make, AND because I constantly judge myself very harshly) I'm giving you all a preview of the next chapter. I literally just wrote this, as I want to get this next chapter written NOW. I only now rediscovered all my old notes from 4 months ago, and its really giving me a good direction. Anyway, here's the preview:
The Tale of Lord Barleycorn
Unnamed chapter 42
FINALLY.
After all this damned IRL crap, I finally have a first draft of the new chapter of Lord Barleycorn done. Editing had to be done, but that's not as bad as getting things in order. As with any chapter that takes this long, I had to reread it, and previous chapters multiple times along the course of its creation. I hated it having to take so long, I hated keeping you all waiting, and I hated the creative rot that fell on me as I began to get used to not writing in the face of this BS.
5 pages.
And its all quick, vague sentences like 'carrot top does this.' 'cherry nova talks about ____' so its nothing but a basic framework for me to build on but... 5 whole pages? I'm not sure how many chapters this will equate to and it's subject to change but wow. xD
I'm alive. I swear.
I've been working on Lord barleycorn, and can now say that editing can begun. The slowness is mostly due to me having to reread the entire story due to some plot threads I needed to end. Before it was simple, I have a simple direction and I could write whatever I liked, world build freely... its another matter when you have to keep in mind all those details you thought up on the fly to prevent a plot hole.
Well, I'm still coughing but damned was that terrible. Temp of about 102 F (that's about 43C) for 3 days that I only kept manageable with pain killers, otherwise I would have boiled in my own skin.
13/15 pages edited, with just a few to go.
My editors have already combed through my story and I can clearly tell what parts were written at 3AM when I was drowsy and not thinking clearly. Some paragraphs still need to be rewritten but the hard parts are behind me.
Look for the new chapter to be up within 48 hours of this blog.
But now I'll sleep... its 4AM here and I can't edit anymore.
I've stuck with a lot of my editors over the years, but I want to really rake these last chapters of Lord Barleycorn over the coals. twice.
If anyone wants to to take a stab at being a harsh editor, please comment below. I'll DM you the google doc link. Those that know how to use Google Docs are preferred, and please put your edits on the suggestion boxes or use colored text so I can see them.
EDIT: Positions have been filled. Thanks. =3
is now in look of editing. =3
I'm going to have to be brutal here, as so much has landed on my lap that I'm concerned about the quality of my writing. But, this is good news for my readers. =3
((it is 3:32 AM. time for bed. ))
I'm awaiting some word from my proof-readers, but the next chapter of Lord Barleycorn is finally done.
The next chapter's upload time is sept. 3rd.
I ripped out the disclaimers/headings.
I got used to them back on fanfiction.net, and it just felt... weird not seeing them at the top of my other work. But, ever since TCB - Punishment got initially rejected for my usual header, I got to thinking: it really is pointless. It's just habit by now, and everyone knows its a MLP story. If anything I'm just egotistically slapping my user name on each chapter (which I may also change, I've used Rambling Puppet for over a decade now).
Eyup. Finally. Now i get to be ultra critical of myself. ... yay?
Nothing is more frustrating when you spend a night writing, only to reject it all come the dawn.
That's been the cycle since I uploaded the last chapter. A full 12 pages of rewrites, new directions, and variations on theme.
Finally, I think I've found a start that sounds right when I read it. It's not endless meandering drivel or an exposition dump, it finally feels like I've found a direction.
Look forward to a surprise in the next chapter of Lord Barleycorn.
Editing has started on the newest chapter of lord barleycorn! Just thirteen pages and one more look from my proof readers to go! =3
The latest chapter of Lord Barleycorn had begun its editing phase. it should drop in less than a week.
the latest chapter is about 90% done. This means... update soon!
Ugh, this means the final nail in this agonizing chapter. The 2nd part of And pigs will fly won't be as long, but my god this has been the most re-written train wreck I've ever done. 6 months of creative rot, at least 3 whole rewrites. Plot points being shelved, then re-added months later. I had to reread the last 5 chapters at least twice since starting to keep everything in continuity and I'm not sure if I succeeded.
I know I've been dragging my feet, but I've started editing the newest chapter of Lord Barleycorn. its going to be split into 2 chapters due to it being long enough for it, and so that you guys get to have two chapters instead of one big chapter drop sometime later.
Look forward to it in the near future.
It was pointed out to me that posting copywriten lyrics are against FiMFiction's rules, and so I've begun to scrub the lyrics from The Tale of Lord Barleycorn. I'm not sure about the ones I slightly altered to be more... 'pony-ish' so I might leave them in. Hell, the mods never complained in the 2+ years LBC's been up. Maybe they won't care about those. *shrug*
EDIT: Scratch that. I guess if the mods disagree then they can tell me that themselves.
