Once upon a time Sombra, the Dark King and Conqueror of the Crystal Empire, was an orphaned colt in the old capital of Xenophon. Adopted by Celestia and taught by the princess he becomes a powerful shadow mage.

Once upon a time Celestia, Princess of Equestria, heard stories of a orphan with a gift of magic. She adopts the colt Sombra as her son and student.

Shadows don't necessarily mean evil, but the path is dark and even the best taught of student can succumb to the taint of Darkness. Teacher and Student face each other for the fate of two nations. Sun and Shadow.

Love can transcend all bounds, whether it is time, space, or class. That is something they were always taught.

It had seemed like a good idea at the time, until Sunset actually read what Twilight wrote in her letter. She'd already said yes to seeing Celestia again, and she wouldn't go back on her word. Sunset Shimmer, the protege of Princess Twilight, originally planned to wear her mentor's old Mare-Do-Well costume to a Nightmare Night party. A near-disaster that evening drove her to keep it, taking up the role of Equestria's newest hero.

Takes place after Season 4 in an alternate timeline where the Equestria Girls series and The Cutie Map, and as a result the map episodes of Season 5, never happened.

In this world, there exist ponies with special abilities to manipulate objects and transform one object into another. These ponies are known as alchemists. However, the process comes with a cost; the basic law of alchemy states that in order to gain something, you must sacrifice something of equal value.

Twilight Sparkle is one such alchemist, her talents renowned across the land. In an accident several years ago, she nearly lost her older brother, Shining Armor, due to a transmutation gone horribly wrong. Twilight's quick thinking allowed her to contain her brother's soul in his suit of armor, but only by paying a great price in exchange.

Now, to get back what they've lost, the siblings embark on a journey to find the elusive Alicorn Amulet, which is fabled to enhance the powers of alchemy...and bypass the Law of Equivalent Exchange.
