Now, a few things before I go into this one.
1. I would put this in a blog post, but they don't get the same kind of exposure that chapters do. Plus, people who hate the story but follow me can see it.
2. THE ENDING THAT I WENT WITH IS THE ENDING THAT I PICK AND IT IS CANON!!! I AM COMPLETELY HAPPY WITH THAT ENDING!!! Seriously, I don't want you to take this as a 'guess he regrets the ending he picked' post because it isn't.
So, basically I had a one-shot chapter that I was going to post here that was an alternate ending where Blossom didn't end up dying and she got therapy. However, it grew into its own storyline in my head and I wasn't sure I could resist. It would be in the same vein as 'Breaking of a Non-Brony' or 'TD's Little Rarity', just an alternate look into what could have been and I'll let you guys decide which is better if you want me to do it. No matter which, I will still stick by the ending I gave you first as the best one. Do know that. However, if you want to see what would have happened had Blossom gone down a different path, it's very doable.
If not, I'll scrap it for Blossom but still recycle the idea into another fic just so you guys aren't deprived of one of my better ideas.
One one hoof, it might lessen the impact of the original story.
On the other, I have a truly great idea for it.
What do you think? Should I show you what was behind door #2?
Do it!!
Personally I think it's fine without any alternate endings. If you do put out an alternate the real ending will lose a bit of it's touch as people don't have to accept that as the real one. As a general rule I'm against a/e's because they divide the readers in the most important part of any tale, right as it ends.
Of course I can't force you not to put it out, but I wouldn't want it.
I say go for it!
Why the fuck not? Do it.
Why can't we love both, knowing it's an alternate?
I love the deadderpyverse in the winning pony series, even though its not canon, despite loving the canon story more.
2493917 Hm... that's a fair point. I too love the Dead Derpyverse and wish it would be updated more.
Do it, please
I vote: do it.
Your writing is superb, and I for one would be keenly interested in peeking behind door #2.
Do it.
Did the various alternative endings (well, two) to 'No I'm not a brony get me out of Equestria' detract from the original story? No, they didn't. What ifs ahoy!
I wasn't looking for an alternate ending, but now I'm all curious. Do it.
2492427 I think the concept of Purgatory and redemption for one's sins is a middle ground that I'm happy to take on this issue. Despite Rarity's psychological troubles, she can't really expect to get into Paradise for free, now can she? But as I said earlier, I just don't feel like she deserves eternity in Tartarus. Perhaps she is in that kind of Purgatory, where she must realise the error of her ways before being granted peace. Perhaps she already reached that epiphany when she saw what her crimes did to her family, friends and life.
Either way, it's always interesting to hear alternate perspectives on such a complex issue. I hope you enjoyed this discussion as much as I did.
As for our currently unanswered questions, I look forward to seeing the Killer Rarityverse expanded in the future. The untold stories have a lot of potential, and if there's one thing I can't stand to be without, it's closure.
2494166 Purgatory for Rarity is never something I thought about... but I like it. I'm not confirming that's what happened, but I really like that idea.
2494166
True enough I suppose.
It's just if Paradise goes to everyone, it'd make one wonder, and I have enjoyed this discussion.
Mainly because if Paradise is a given for everyone, it'd make one wonder why would one want to live when true, pure happiness is around the corner? Suicide would be the best option as everything would work out for the best.
It reminds me of the story of Arcanum, where (SPOILER ALERT) the big bad villian is trying to kill everyone because he has died and came back, and has discovered there is just one, joyous paradise for everyone. (You can even help him accomplish this!) Or convince him otherwise.
Also, wouldn't mind seeing the ending, or used for someone else.
Well, seeing that I did not like the epilogue, I would like you to give a chance to the alternate ending, and who knows, maybe i choose that chapter as the real ending.
I'd also like to read the alternative.
Well, i enjoyed both side stories, so i say "go with it". You are one of my curent favourite authors and i can't have enough of your stories.
Do it! I love AU endings
Could you please do the spin-off?
Please do~
Personally I was thinking the original ending would involve a fake injection and later released, cured and free of the nightmare. 'Blossom' dies, so the records say, but there was that certain well-built up talent she had, one that could allow her to live on in her completely own life of her own choosing, of her own identity rather in the shadow of the past. A bitter sweet thing of cutting all ties with loved ones, true.
However in the last couple chapters you made it clear Blossom was indeed suffering, tired, and so you delivered true mercy. I understand the choice you had to make and support your original ending. My above thought of what perhaps was going to happen would only then work if Celestia and Luna also erased her memories completely... and really it then loses the point of the matter at hoof. So bravo sticking to what you believed needed to happen.
Also, looking forward to where else you'll take some of those ideas still tumbling about.
OMF (Oh my Faust), please do write it, I'd love to see it if you do have a good idea for it :-).
Could the ripples be from the other two or do you want us to keep it broken blossom? I was thinking of maybe writing about twilight cutting or maybe even attempted suicide after looking into the basement through the memories.
While you're right in the fact that it may lessen the impact of the actual ending, do it. I'm curious now
2494549
I guess you could say that's a...Golden idea.
Yes, PLEASE. This may sound like a rant, but I was thinking yesterday and remembered how you constantly told me and numerous others probably to have faith and that you knew what you were doing... and that just seemed like bad doing, because I think to most of us possibly, there was faith or the popular belief that despite the tags and the events, it would have a happy ending for this story/series for Blossom at least (maybe her mom too), but it ended kinda bittersweet. I mean, this story and maybe the one before had all kinds of feelings: happy and sad, calm and angry, and everywhere in between. Sure, Blossom DIED happy and ended up in Paradise (along with the three she killed, who gave her their forgiveness a while back apparently), but she still left an awful imprint on her family by choosing death.
Apologies if I sound butthurt, as I'm not; it's just as I said, you DID say to have faith in you (even though this is the ONLY work of yours I've read, this series that is) and while it may not have been the ending I or some others wanted; it did in retrospect, end the way that was best I suppose. And I think while I would be more at peace with an alternate ending, it wouldn't cheapen the original chapter/ending and let us at least know if Blossom goes on to have a happy life, if she HAD gotten cured... eventually. So yes, hope you will do it anyways!
Apologies again, I just had to get that out of my system, even if it might not've been the best thing to do, but I sorta forgot in my reviewing/reading yesterday of the end of this. Feel like there was more I wanted to say about it, but those are the main points I remember wanting to say.
2494659 Ripples is from any of them.
2494562 I am. I'm going to have the first chapter of it out soonish.
Well being the author I say it's up to you. I liked the first ending just fine, but I also enjoy reading whatever you write. I think I've read almost everything you've written, and I still need to read what you've written that I haven't gotten to yet.
Spin-Offs are enjoyable. Between that and all of the fans writing stuff for ripples, the killer Rarityverse won't have to come to an end.
Door 2 ,door number 2!!
Well, I think I made myself pretty clear about how I felt Blossom handled her ending. So it should be no surprise that I would love to see an alternate take were she continues her fight.
My vote is an enthusiastic YES PLEASE!
We adore thine writing. We chose any spin off thou writes!
Ok, my turn.
1. I wanted to write a long, long post 'bout everything I like or dislike in this story.
Maybe later. Now I'm too devastated by that ending. Which was great, like the whole story.
2. Alternative Ending? I love the 1st one, but can't wait to read it, especially after all these possible ways everything could go I had in my head (more than 10 per chapter, not counting last ones, where I already knew the real ending).
3. Side stories- I have a couple of ideas, so I think I'll write some, but now I need to get back to work on my story and get at least the prologue published- I didn't create that complicated and ridiculous plot in my head to give it up now. So yeah, later, but I already reserve the title "It Snows in Tartarus".
Like I said before, I think the first ending was a great way to end the trilogy, and making an alternate ending would...I dont know, I guess it would detract from the original for me. It would take away the redemption thing which I found to be great. Basically everything Quite Quiet said. But since the majority wants you too I guess I should expect it. I'm not trying to stop you from writing it though, I know your a great writer and can make this work out.
Leave it as is, I think. An alternate ending just lessens the impact of the first one.
2494828 Thank you.
Yes please because I still hold to the belief that killing her off is more of a cop out than anything. The theme of nature vs. nurture comes to mind as I'm thinking about your story, and you decided to go with the nature side...on top of having her give up by dying just completely skews the theme, but only because I lean on the nurture side. Do what you wish though, as it's still a great story no matter what!
Is there going to be a link in this book to it?
2496643
2496643 This isn't a book shorty.
2499342 The average novel is somewhere between 75,000 and 85,000 words. The first two Harry Potter books, for example, are 77,000 and 85,000 words respectively. Broken Blossom is 98,000. On top of that, the original draft of The Secret Life of Rarity was 117,000 some odd words. Now it's almost 143,000 words after months of editing. Harry Potter 3 is 107,000 I do the same for Broken Blossom...
2499406 oh. I am not well versed in my book length in words. Only in pages. And it takes too much effort to copy and paste things like this to measure.
2499416 I'm sorry you feel that way and I'm sorry that you seem to dislike Blossom altogether, since you pointed out TPLoSB was good until her.
My whole point with this was that Blossom sought redemption. Yes, she was mentally ill, yes her kills were arguably self-defense (key word arguably). She wanted death because she knew that she was going to become her aunt if she didn't get it. If I hadn't ended it with her execution, I probably would have ended it with her suicide. Blossom knew that she was sliding to the dark side and that she wouldn't be able to hold it off forever. Also keep in mind that, especially with the DT kill, she enjoyed what she did. She could have just stabbed DT but she wanted to make her suffer, she wanted to torture her. That goes beyond self defense into murder. Blossom knew she was capable of that because she had done it.
Long story short, she didn't give up, she chose the option that she thought would bring less pain for everybody. If she's dead she's not suffering in prison while slowly becoming her aunt despite the efforts of everybody, her family doesn't have to see her like that or deal with the fallout of her becoming a murderer again, and they can start to heal from everything. If she hadn't chosen death, then it would have been worse for everybody. She saw the path she was traveling down and it ended in bloodshed by her hooves.
Now, was that true? Maybe, but you also have to keep in mind that the pony who played a big part in convincing her of this was the hallucination of Rarity she saw, AKA, a pony in her own mind. When the two sides of her mind combined, she saw death as the only out.
Now, the alternate ending probably has more of what you're looking for... I hope. Blossom's family plays more of a part, particularly Comet, we get even more of Blossom's thought process on the whole thing and what would have happened had she not 'given up'. It's a longer story than just one chapter, detailing quite a stretch of time. I hope you like that more.
I think you should do the 'what if blossom lived one' you should also do a story of Celestia and Luna doing forbidden magic and going back in time to stop blossom from murdering, and giving her back her life. these are two Idea's, and maybe you could write about the life of Blossom in paradise and how this will impact the land of the living If not, I could write them and send them to you to see how like them?
2502842 You are more than welcome to write the Blossom paradise one and if you want to do the dark magic one that's fine too. I'm already writing an alternate ending where Blossom lives.
This story made me think of how the death of a loved one can hurt, but you should alway's think of there inner peace... Blossom is at piece, while the land of the living is in pain. I would truly be at peace when I leave this crewl world. I would be lieing if I say I'm not afraid of leaving, but I am afraid of what lie's ahead of it. I now hope my grandpa is in a place like blossom, and is at true peace. Well done my friend. Well done.
I may be horrible for suggesting this, but I kinda want an alternate ending where she goe ballistic and kills comet. Any thoughts on that?
2504292 I'm working on an alternate ending now. I shan't give details, of course, but I'll let you know when the first chapter is out.
I kinda want to see an ending where she snaps and kills everyone. I mean, she has the potential to be the most successful serial killer possible. Like maybe the phantom Rarity from her subconscious takes control or something.
