Fluttershy wants to confess her love to Twilight, but she's afraid to. Rarity comes up with an idea for her and Twilight to have picnic together, so as to tell her in a romantic setting.

There are times when you've just got to let yourself have a little fun, and for Twilight, newly arrived to the town of Ponyville, today is one of those days, as she's invited by her friends to join in on a classic game.

The unicorn and the pegasus Twilight and Fluttershy have a nice friendly sleepover at Twilight's library. As the event progresses, it escalates into something better than they could hope for.

After a rather hectic confession of affection, both Fluttershy and Twilight Sparkle have become marefriends. Almost a year later, and neither of them could be happier with their life. Yet despite such thing, sometimes Fluttershy is left wondering just how her new marefriend manages being the princess of friendship, and a relationship. One evening, when the two of them finally get to spend some time alone with one another, Fluttershy finds herself having to calm a rather stressed alicorn, and how better to do such a thing then with a calming lullaby.

Twilight Sparkle, even after discovering friendship and being elevated to The Princess of Friendship has still maintained her love and affinity toward books. At every opportunity she gets, when not interacting with friends or family, she has her muzzle in a book. It’s her comfort zone, she feels secure and happy.

But truly happy?

Fluttershy had friends before Twilight Sparkle came to Ponyville to oversee the Summer Sun Festival. In spite of these friends, she’d rather have stayed in her cottage surrounded by a plethora of woodland creatures than actually interact with her fellow ponies, even her friends, sometimes. Now after several years of the group becoming closer, Fluttershy had come out of her shell, at least most of the way. But she could still be insecure and to herself quite easily.

But does she really want to maintain that shield of isolation?

Now something happens to open their hearts to the next stage of friendship. And discovering that a close friend may be the answer to making their lives complete. Filling a void that neither acknowledged that was there. And they’ll have to admit to feelings they never let themselves acknowledge.

If these feelings are admitted, then there is an issue to overcome:

All's going well until she hears the door unlocking, and then all of Tartarus breaks loose as she flees from the approaching Wraith.

Solitude is something nopony wants, and although life seems to want to lock us into that, our emotions can lead us to other things. Sometimes, words are not needed to express those emotions. Sometimes, the only thing we have to do is show them. We just need a catalyst to give us the courage to do so... and perhaps the advice of a goddess.

A Twishy fic, because they are my favourite pairing and there are not enough shipping of them. My first work in this fandom since I became brony.

Tis better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all right? For Twilight, that phrase is the best way to describe herself. As she sits out on the balcony on this starry night, she looks out at what could've been, what would've been, and what is lost, but at the same time she sees what is gained and what she now has.
