Stay on the Citadel with Twilight. 52%
"I think I'll stick around here for a while, I'm sure Twilight won't mind having me around," Fluttershy decided relatively quickly, leaving the unicorn pretty much on her own without any close friends was probably a terrible idea.
"I-It's your house I'm staying in after all," Twilight stammered as she hadn't expected that from Fluttershy.
"Oh, don't be like that. I'm sure you and Fluttershy will get to experience a lot more of this fantastic place," Rarity said, sipping from the glass of wine she had gotten with the meal.
"Yer way too much in love with this place, Rares," Applejack chuckled. "Ain't no place for me, Ah'd take mah farm any day."
"And I wouldn't expect anything less from you, darling," Rarity replied with a chuckle of her own. The four of them got into some more casual conversation as they ate up the rest of their meals. Afterwards, Fluttershy dropped off Twilight at the apartment and ferried Rarity and Applejack to the Presidium to the pony embassy. They'd be returning to the titan for the next part of their journey in a few hours and needed someplace to get some sleep.
Twilight was cleaning off the apartment with her magic as Fluttershy got back to her place. "So, when do you have to go to the university?"
"I'd say in the morning but 'mornings' don't really happen here, do they?" Twilight answered, making Fluttershy chuckle.
"No, not really... What time were you given?" Twilight levitated over her tablet to Fluttershy to show the message from the school with times to appear. "Hmm, that should give you almost a day before you have to get there," Fluttershy said as she checked the time on her omni-tool.
"Right, thanks... so what are you going to do around here?" Twilight asked, sitting down at the dinner table, one of the things in the apartment that had been adapted to pony physiology.
"Honestly, I don't know," Fluttershy answered with a shrug, getting a glass of water and offering one to Twilight too. "I'll probably be doing practice with my shooting and other things, the reapers can't be long away and I want to be razor-sharp when they finally arrive."
Twilight nodded, sighed, and muttered. "How did we get to this point..."
"What point?" Fluttershy asked curiously.
"All of this," she sighed, "How we went from being happy on our planet to being thrust into the galaxy. You becoming this... badflank of a pony! You, who was afraid of her own shadow!... My falling out with Princess Celestia..."
Fluttershy wrapped a wing around the unicorn's back. "Not all of it is something I'd wish on others, Twilight. We were dealt a hand of cards and now we're going to have to play with them."
Twilight leaned against her pegasus friend and sighed deeply again. "I just don't know what me going to learn physics is going to help..."
"If you get a good grasp on it you may be able to find ways to improve technology vitally needed against the reapers. I've seen how many ships just one of those things could take out, we're going to need all the advantages we can get... and besides, you may actually be able to make headway on indoctrination," Fluttershy nudged Twilight on the shoulder and smirked. "And I could give you some lessons so you can at least handle yourself, I started here on the Citadel too and know a good place to learn."
"Maybe I will..." Twilight yawned, "But for now I think I should get some sleep."
"Of course, I'll go check up on the apartment's ventilation systems and such. The filters probably need to be replaced." Fluttershy stood up to go check up on the places she needed to. "I'll join you in bed in about an hour, sleep well Twilight."
Fluttershy checked the straps on her armour as she got ready to go out. Getting permits to keep her weaponry now she didn't have Shepard or Garrus around was a little harder but having herself assigned to the embassy security team circumvented a lot of the regulations for her high powered weapons. Not that the diplomats there really needed her with C-Sec's presence around the Citadel but it removed a headache for her.
The news feeds still occasionally showed reports of the Vindica but with them being in Turian space not as much video was being released as on that first day. After Twilight had gone to bed Fluttershy had checked in on those and found them all to be covering the event of the newly arrived warship.
Twilight had been settling in at the university in the meanwhile, diving deep into her studies over the last two weeks. The unicorn's work was even bleeding into the apartment with notes covering the dinner table which meant their food breaks were usually moved to the smaller coffee table and ate on the couch.
Today though Fluttershy was going to pick up Twilight at the university for some more physical activities.
Weapons, check, armour, check, thermal clips, check... well, that should do it.
Happy about everything she had with her Fluttershy pulled up her hood, strapped on her bag, and made for the university, as she arrived there Twilight was nowhere to be seen. Making an educated guess, Fluttershy assumed she was still inside and forgot the time. Walking in, the pegasus looked for signs towards the lecture hall she knew Twilight had her lesson in. Fluttershy memorised Twilights schedule to the minute the day the unicorn had gotten it, not that Twilight knew that of course but if something happened then Fluttershy knew where she had to go to find her friend.
"Hey, who are you?" Fluttershy stopped and looked back, an asari in the schools dress walking towards her.
"Just someone looking for a friend," Shy answered.
"Twilight Sparkle?" she guessed.
"That's her," Shy nodded. "You know where I can find her?"
"She should still be in the lecture hall, she always stays to ask the professor questions," the asari answered and motioning for Fluttershy to follow her. "I'm Aranyo D'riasus by the way."
"Fluttershy," Shy curtly answered as they got the the lecture hall, Twilight levitating a bunch of notes around her for the professor.
"Miss Sparkle, your observations are interesting, and quite correct, but these subjects will be covered in the next lecture," The professor told Twilight who looked sad that she hadn't gotten her answer.
"Twilight!" the asari called out, getting the pair's attention.
"Fluttershy! Oh no, I forgot the time!" Twilight exclaimed, all her papers flying into her bag as she ran over to her friend. Fluttershy noticed a silent nod of thanks from the professor to the other student. "We're not too late are we?"
"Not yet, but we should hurry a bit," Fluttershy smiled, giving a nod to the student and professor as they went to drop Twilight's stuff into her locker before heading out to get a taxi.
"So, what did you have planned?" Twilight asked, making Fluttershy smirk, move aside her cloak, and open her bag, to reveal the weapons she'd stashed in there. "I'm going to teach you to shoot... and you're going to pick out with which one of these you're going to learn to do it with."
1. Assault Rifle - Phaeston
2. Shotgun - N7 Crusader
3. Sniper - M-97 Viper
4. Pistol - M-6 Carnifex
5. SMG - M12 Locust
I go for the SMG. Even with Twilights skill with magic, for someone who won’t go looking for trouble it would be a good choice for her.
Im going to have to sit back on this one as I have no idea of what Twilight can actually do with weapons, given only prior knowledge of her being easily distracted unless extremely tightly focused, and Shy is already a Super Sniper.
Twilight has a gun. A book appears next to her.
Oh boy, that was a close vote.
Hmm, I would say the SMG. Twilight magic is insanely powerful and precise, so what she needs is a sidearm for emergencies, and between the options the SMG is both light and great in a panic, compared to the pistol (too weak and she isn't going to hit anything) or the other, much heavier, weapons.
Leaning toward Pistol myself, mainly for the fact that I can see Twilight not wanting a weapon that can just spit out death crazy fast. She's a thinker she is gonna want to consider what she is doing with each shot. Inversely she'd not want a sniper rifle because I doubt she could handle getting an up close view of putting a hole in someone or something's head or whatever.
Lastly cause a pistol would be easy for her to carry around on her person and not have to worry about you know...where to carry it. Sides there are some nasty pistol weapons later on, I remember one from the third game that was pretty much fired I think...sticky bomb things that blew up a few seconds later. Loved that one, and yes I know that is not the kind she getting but it COULD be one she gets later...maybe?
... really wish it was a two thing, i would definitely go with SMG followed by pistol
I'm now thinking of the first Bioshock game. Despite a wide range of very inventive weapons, the most powerful weapon in the game was Telekinesis and a Bible. Yep, you haven't truly lived in that game until you've one-shotted a splicer with a bible to the face with TK.
Personally, I'm thinking she'll always default to magic for her attacks. She's a magical powerhouse, and adding biotics to that will make her the match of any matriarch with only some training. Remember, she has a ton of built-in advantages. She's a magical prodigy who's special talent is magic. She's also the Bearer of the Element of Magic, and while she hasn't alicorned out yet, she's still got all the inherent qualities of the Princess of Friendship, which will tend to give her magical powers a boost. Add biotics to that, and you've got a one-pony powerhouse. And that's even before you start talking about weapons.
I think if she takes any weapon (and actually intends to use it,) It'll probably be the SMG. She's got long-range and heavy assault nailed with her magic. She can use the biotic amp to give her crowd-control powers. But get in close, and she's got fewer options. Traditionally, she either shields, or teleports to gain distance. So I'd say the SMG is what she needs for close-in support.
Boy, teleportation. That's one of her signature stunts. That will seriously mess with the Citadel eggheads when they realize she can do that...

That's hardly fair to her character. She's not the princess of books.
Her main problem is not distraction, it's tunnel vision. She hyper focuses on her current goal. She has anxiety in tense situations, but can react quickly, when her friends are in danger.
If she has someone to keep her anxiety low, she is a great leader, like we have seen in the show.
Definitively no heavy weaponry for Twilight. I forget how SMGs behave in the game, but if they have any sort of kick... ... I'm leaning on pistol here. It's always a good beginner weapon at any rate, IMO.
I was thinking shot gun, because she is going to rely mostly on keeping her distance and using magic. If an enemy gets close, like a krogan, she would want a shot gun.
Pistol is also ok, but shot gun works better.

SMGs tend to be a bit of a bullet hose, and hard to keep on target. But then again, if the target is in shotgun range, pinpoint accuracy means less. Shotgun, I think, you need a certain amount of physical strength for, to resist the kick. Twilight's a mage and intellectual first, and isn't built with the kind of physical development you'd need to be pinpoint accurate with a shotgun.
Thank god its just a pistol, Twilight wielding a different kind of Carnifex would be terrifying.

I know, isn't it amazing Twilight? ...and by "it", I mean Fluttershy. n//n
Likely late on the vote but...I imagine Assault Rifle and Shotgun lost; Pistol is probably the best option for Twilight considering her combat skills would most likely be magically based...like when she and Tirek reenacted scenes from DBZ.
I've got a fondness for the Phaeston. That rifle is actually really cool looking. To me anyway.
... personally? i could see Twi using either the pistol, the SMG or the shotty.
So... How long until Fluttershy is the first pony spector?

I don't know but I can't wait. Nice chapter.
A pistol, M6 Carniflex is a good gun.
10757912
In game shotguns are usually for vangaurds like Rainbow dash, dash in close with biotics and take a lot of damage while going bull in a china shop.
Pistols are for the Adepts, biotics masters that use biotics from afar.

Reminds me of a concept for a tabletop RPG that a friend of mine proposed once. A Star Trek game set aboard the U.S.S. James T Kirk. A Federation starship crewed entirely by Kirk's offspring...
There's a reason real world soldiers don't actually carry pistols (despite what movies and video games say). They just aren't effective in war. So, I would say it would be between the shotgun and SMG.
The shotgun has power and doesn't require good aim, but it's also slow. Also, considering Twilight would probably rely on magic, whatever gun she would use would be a sidearm, and the shotgun is a little bulky for that.
I'd have to go with the SMG. It's smaller and lighter than the shotgun and with the high rate of fire it also doesn't require pinpoint accuracy.

I don't know what armed forces you're talking about (US?), but ours definitely carry Glock 17's
10759372
As Commander said, I don't know what military you speak of. All US soldiers are armed with 1911s chambered in 9mm and .45 depending on fheir MO. That said, I think the USMC just got a new sidearm. Generally they are back up weapons, but are more than effective enough for CQB.
Sides, here we have Twilight Sparkle, magic being her forte. A pistol would be more than enough for her.

Sorry to say, but the only time military carry a pistol are when they aren't in direct combat roles, like field officers or artillery. Infantry in the field generally do not. They are ineffective and only add more weight to the soldier's kit.
10761315
You are an idiot. Former Captain USAF. Pistols are mandatory part of the kit included in the 75lbs gear carried by every soldier.
10761843
Do keep it civil
10761315
Mil school with the 11th Air assault Netherlands Royal army, mandatory here as well, either carried on the chest or leg.
10761855
I'm not sure of about the Netherlands, but the US doesn't use them.
10761843
No you weren't. If you're going to pretend to be a vet, at least do some research. The US military uses the P320-M17, not a 1911. The 1911 hasn't been used since the 80's.
10762113
You just answered you own question.
10762238
You clearly didn't read my comments.
10762310
You stated that the USA doesn't use a pistol. When you questioned us about it I tossed dated intel and you corrected me. While I had thought the M17 had been discontinued in favor of returning to the 1911, it is in fact the pistol the USMC uses.
You named the pistol that is standard carry, either on Boots, Chest, Under-arm, or hip, sometimes back-butt area.
10762343
From a previous comment of mine (10761315);
Also, EVERY branch of the US armed forces uses the M17. There is no reason we would go back to the 1911, and no one that actually served would think we would.
Now, are you done making a fool of yourself?
10762438
A question you should ask yourself.
10763640
You lie about serving in the military, you thought that we were still using the 1911 despite the fact we haven't used it for over 30 years, and you don't even know what you're arguing against. Tell me how I'm the one that is making a fool of himself?
10763723
In a manner of keeping it civil per the Commanders request, I shall be discontinuing this conversation after this final post.
The 1911 was used up till the mid 2000s, so less than 20 years ago. Of this I am 100% certain. As there was a major debate over which was more effective, 9mm or .45. Now, that said, its decomissioning like everything else, looking at the F14 here, took time.
Soldiers carry, now and always, a pistol as a backup to their primary armament. It is called redundancy and is a good thing.
Do not insult me again, I will use the report button if needed though I do not wish to.
Have a fantastic day, I am now going to ignore you as I dislike people in general.
10763924
Everything you just said is wrong. The 1911 started to be phased out in 1985 and by 1090 was phased out completely. The M9 was used through out the 90s and phased out by 2015. A quick Google search would have told you that. You never served in the military and you certainly weren't an officer. US soldiers do not carry handguns in direct combat roles. Go ahead and report me. If you are insulted by what I've been saying, that's on you.
I believe a Pistol is the best option for her. Not to mention I think she might even be able to improve upon them herself with her magic, or possibly even enchant it. She's knows a multitude of spells, after all. I still wonder what might happen for Twilight if she gets that Biotic Upgrade like Shining did.

Alright, so first of all: there's probably a cultural difference here where Americans are much more vigilant concerning the topic of people faking service. (Something we don't have here, depending on where you are military might be looked at neutrally or people just don't get you at all.)
Let's take in good faith that both of you are active/vets. As Tempestus stated he was a USAF Captain, the Captain part being the key there as an officer would carry a pistol. (Of course, I don't know what exactly his job was.)
Then for Shirotora, I'm going to take a guess you are more close to the grunts on the ground who would not be carrying pistols. As for what pistol, I'm not that up to date with the US though neither of us know what timescale we're talking about with Tempestus, I can't see his age over the internet.
10765215
I was Navy (retired), but I have friends and family in every branch. I can say that here, in the US, stolen valor is a very, very disrespectful thing. It's like someone saving another person's life and then someone else that was never even there claiming they did it. That's why it upset me as much as it did. As for them being an officer, any officer will know what their soldiers carry. I didn't carry ANY weapon and I still know what weapons are issued when. It's just something we're taught. Besides, even officers don't really carry pistols any more. It used to be standard and is still sometimes done, but it's being phased out, too. Pistols just aren't effective enough for battlefield use.
However, seeing as you're writing fiction and Mass Effect has 'heavy pistols' there's still a perfectly believable rout to go there if that's what people choose... hint hint
So... if a biotic implant basically magnifies/weaponizes a non-unicorn's magic, what would that mean for an already absurdly powerful unicorn like Twilight? And just to turn it past 11 to OP-Plz-Nerf, an alicorn...?
Twilight is Neo. When she discovers her true power she won't need to dodge bullets.
They have long or short range so far. Rifle is perfect to close that gasph.
The calm before the storm... How long was Shepard in prison again?
10757826
Sounds the most reasonable.
10757987
You'r avatar before the fight and that picture towards the end?
10761236
A rifle is a great jack of all trades and Garrus showed in Me3 how to dance with it.
Long distance or short, it has always its uses unlike for example a shotgun or a sniper.
