Stories set in the Oversaturated World, some silly, some less so.

"....You cannot be serious."
"I'm totally serious."
"You. Can not. Be serious."
"I. Am totally. Serious."
Twilight threw up her hands. "Why?! Why does your world have this thing for bad puns?! First it was the timberwolves, then it was the fruit bats, and now..." She gestured at the lagomorphs scrawling cryptic messages over the laboratory walls. "Now it's plot bunnies?!"
Fluttershy nodded, fluttering her wings. "They're a cyclically endangered species."
"How does leaving strange lines help with their survival?! What is even the point?!"
"It's mostly a symbiotic relationship. They help develop ideas and, in turn, get protection from their predators."
"Oh, let me guess, writer's blocks?"
"Uh, no." Fluttershy gave her an odd look. "Wolverines."
"Right."
"Writer's blocks have a completely different habitat."
Twilight facepalmed. "Of course they do."
(FoME)
A deep, almost lowing "Mowr" drifted through the castle's windows. The plot bunnies shuddered in unison, then scribbled all the faster.
Fluttershy blushed. "Though I do have one."
"Of course you do," groaned Twilight. "For the sake of my own sanity, I'm not even going to look."
"That's probably for the best."

Eh, it's less weird than anthropomorphic, evil, wedding-planner rabbits from the moon.
Mee moo mowr.

He's talking about Bowser's new mini-bosses in Super Mario Odyssey. They have fancy hats. There actually was a name for the group, but I forgot what they were called.
I love el goonish shive!
Long Live Dan Shive

Broodals, I think.

Right, those guys. Thanks.
Perhaps it is a Discworld-like phenomenon, in which high magical fields have a tendency to cause metaphors to actualize.
(For writers, this is a terrible responsibility. No-one wants to see a repeat of the Noodle Incident.)

That's not how Equestrian time travel works though, and it isn't the limit I place. Starswirl's spell let Twilight travel back a week, and Starlight's modification let it go back years.
The limit I place is to not back further than the moment of oversaturation.
I like that term: "cyclically endangered species." They're not endangered right now, but they will be in a few years. Then they won't be again.
We've tried helping, but it's like they just can't survive beyond a certain population for too long.

As I see it, Starswirl's time travel spell is a Immutable Fate (Already Changed)-style time travel (AKA a "Stable Time Loop"), with distance-in-time determined by the caster's power and intent. Starlight's modifications managed to break that and make it a case of Alternate Universe Split (Return New), thereby allowing the traveller to change the timeline, while keeping their personal history intact in another timeline.
I READ DAN'S STUFF! Read the whole thing three times now.
(...I think I need more hobbies.)

As good a hypothesis as any. Just remember not to eat any cap grass, or you'll think your family's been replaced by changelings.

Go to the main story page and see my response for "Definitive Proof." And remember, magic doesn't work quite the same way in this world.
It looks like the anthro world is becoming ever more like Discworld with every passing day!

Well... that was sort of the point I was making? Yes, Sunset Shimmer is literally above the law in the sense that no one who exists in that universe can enforce any legal decisions upon her- that basically leaves the question- does Sunset Shimmer see value in maintaining law and order to the point she'll allow it to affect her, and enforce it's decisions upon herself? Or does she claim her position frees her from minding such matters, divorcing her from normal people on yet another way, something she herself said she wished to avoid?

In the case of the lawsuit in question, it's the very definition of frivolous and was thrown out of court when literally no judge on Earth was willing to even humor it (see "Sect Maniacs.")
That said, Sunset will happily submit to the properly applied law of the land as part of her ongoing effort to avoid seeing herself as a perfect, untouchable deity. Of course, people are will have to accuse her of those crimes. And sunset can't guarantee that her followers will be so calm about everything. And she can call in a witness who, with help, has perfect recall of literally everything that ever happened since magic came out of hiding, and can immerse the judge, jury, and prosecution in those recollections as though they were there. And the vast majority of what Sunset does is outside any jurisdiction on Earth, since those activities aren't on Earth.
Lol I heard that in the same tone of voice ad Pinkie's baking powder line.
I can't even tell, is this a typo, or are they endangered on and off?
Heh. Dan is one of the two writers who I think most influenced my own work. And the other is GM.

I haven't been in touch with Masterweaver for a while, but I imagine that if any species would be prone to a cycle of catastrophic die-off and massive population explosions, it would be plot bunnies.

Are they really dying off though? Or just getting totally lost?
