Stories set in the Oversaturated World, some silly, some less so.
Context: There was a brief discussion of how capital-M Magic feels about devices designed to analyze it. I said it was still getting used to the idea of not hiding from everything that sought to understand it. cogwheel though it might have a bit more fun than that...

“Twenty thaums… Twenty-two… Twenty-three… Twenty-four… Twenty-six… Moustache.... Wait. What?”
Fancy Pants reread the freshly printed calibration output from the latest prototype of the next generation Fancy Industries’ Magic Spectrum Analyzer (pat. pend.). Right in the middle of the printout was an image of a very familiar looking moustache. It had the same basic appearance as the one he saw in the mirror every day.
“Ms. Spice?!” he yelled.
A moment later, the door to his office opened and his secretary entered. “Sir?”
“Has anyone been in this room today?”
She shook her head. “No, sir.”
“Hrm…” He squinted his eyes at the prototype on his desk. “Please send a note to the R and D division, inform them that I want a review of this unit completed as soon as possible. I’ll provide notes as to why shortly. Thank you, Ms. Spice.”
Pinkie Pie and Twilight Sparkle sat eating lunch together. Suddenly, a luminescent glow filled Twilight’s eyes. Then Magic giggled.
Pinkie’s eyes also started to glow. “What did you just do?”
“Nothing.”
“Really,” Laughter said as flatly as she could.
Magic grinned, altogether too pleased with herself. “Just a harmless prank.”

Applejack looked back and forth between the two, then turned to Sunset. "You gonna break this up any time soon?"
Sunset shrugged. "I'll give them another minute. If it keeps up or spreads further, I'll be worried. For now, it's nice to see some of us go into Harmonious mindspace without being completely consumed."
"I'm more worried 'bout Magic itself developin' a sense o' humor."
"I'm basically a composite harmony elemental and I have a sense of humor."
Applejack shuddered. "An' thank you fer my nightmares tonight."

Hmm, that's an interesting question. Does this Sunset have a 'true' form? IE: not a projected body? If so, what does she look like?

Ask Twilight when they're next in Goddess Fun Timetm

It's probably something beyond mortal comprehension. The best we'd be able to do is the thing where she looks like a different avatar depending on the angle at which we look.
Didn't XKCD use basically this joke with regular physics?
This is canon behavior for magic. Remember when it made Sunset's oscilloscope start displaying butterflies when she was testing Fluttershy?

I think it has been discribed a few times in the "out side of the univers" chapters.

Personally, I think Magic created emojis for just such purposes.

It has. Think Vrishna crossed with mother Kali. Many arms, absolutely huge.
If you think of their universe as a sphere in 4D+ space, she sticks out of it and holds it together from the outside. I think it describes her early on in "one day I found a multiverse in my pajamas"
It might actually be toward the end actually, where she steps out and looks around for her universe.

It depends on how you define "true form." That could mean the unicorn aspect CHS senior, that same girl having donned a mantle of flame and a radiant gaze, an unceasing golden light that shines within the Astral Plane, the many-armed root of the universe EnderHooves mentioned, the sun, every sun, or a suspiciously adorable pony plushie in Twilight Sparkle's bedroom. Sunset is a multifarious being whose many forms are all equally valid facets of the greater whole. Said greater whole is almost incomprehensible to mortals, though can theoretically be replicated using hyperdimensional modeling software. It doesn't drive you insane to look at it or anything; your brain just isn't equipped to process all of the axes at the same time.
In the context of Goddess Fun Time™, Sunset's true form is whatever Twilight wants it to be, and that's all I'll say on the matter.

Your exelent point is accapted.
Indeed Twilight is the most powerful being in that univers.

Thank you for the thorough answer. I figured it'd been explained at some point, but it's been years since this AU was originally conceived.

I’m not. That sounds like a whole story in itself.

why does goddessfuntime have a trademark next to it?
9899549
Yes the original baby versions and the spin off "All Grown Up" versions, and no you really don't want to know any more than that.

Actually, there are two possible consequences for beholding something that is beyond mortal comprehension. The first is simply going mad from the revelation, since the mortal mind cannot handle what they are seeing. The second is much more gruesome: the true form is so incomprehensible the viewer dies trying to make sense of it. The first is typically what Cthulhu causes. The second is caused by holy beings, like angels or gods.

There is a third option: the incomprehensible object is just that, incomprehensible. It's like looking straight at a Magic Eye picture, sussing out the signal from television static, or trying to make heads or tails of a 4D shape. You see something, but you can't say what. And while it may not be pretty, it doesn't cause sanity loss.
Or, fourth option, the mind subconsciously edits out what it can't process, rendering the incomprehensible imperceptible.
My point is that the average human mind is a lot more resilent than Lovecraft's. The man was afraid of air conditioning. Air conditioning. There are certainly sights that will break the minds or even bodies of mortal men, but there's a wide spectrum between that and that which man was meant to know.

Fair enough, and something doesn't have to be overtly complex to be incomprehensible. Just as we can't comprehend 4D space, so too can we not comprehend 1D space.
Most people agree that the laws of creation have a very perverse sense of humour. Just look up almost any of the most bizarrely daft-looking Australian flora and fauna. Only in a profoundly comedic universe could most of those things exist being both daft and lethal!
