Preparing for an invasion

Author's Note:

We're getting into the meat of things soon.

Canterlot. Day.

Today was a day where Celestia puts all of her focus on one thing. Everything else can wait another time. And for good reason. She was currently thinking about the upcoming invasion that's approaching in just a few weeks.

She had gathered up her sister Luna, Pyrestar and Cadence to her throne room, sitting at a roundtable as they began discussing plans.

"Alright." Celestia took a deep breath. "We know that when they pass through, hordes of ships will arrive. Large enough to eclipse Canterlot Castle. That's our priority. If we can somehow render those ships useless, then we can tip the scales to our favour."

"I suggest we use Ghost-Type Pokemon." Cadence suggested. "They can phase through practically anything. Perhaps, Luna's Frillish can head in and use his water to malfunction all the electricity inside."

"Mhm..." Luna grumbled as she nodded gently.

"What's wrong, Luna?" Celestia asked.

"Something's bothering me," Luna responded. "And it's about my Frillish too."

"Your Frillish? Will he be unable to head inside?" Cadence questioned.

"No. Frillish can most definitely phase through without any issue. It's just that...back then when I was on Empress Twilight's ship and faced her for the first time....something confused me. Her Gravity spell."

"Right. I was told of how formidable and dangerous it was. Even during our Cerebral Training." Celestia sat up. "That's another thing we need to overcome."

Mhm. But when she used the spell on my Pokemon...I understand Darkrai and Xatu being affected but...Frillish is what I wasn't expecting."

"You mean Frillish wasn't meant to be affected by her Gravity spell?" Celestia pondered.

"Frillish shouldn't be affected by gravity at all. And all Ghost-Types for that matter. When learning at the Pokemon School, one of the teachers, Norman, taught me something."

Weeks ago. The Pokemon School. Norman's class.

"Using the Normal move Odor Sleuth is the only way for Normal and Fighting-Types to affect Ghost-Type Pokemon. It's similar to the Psychic-Type move Miracle Eye which allows Psychic-Types to hit Dark-Types." Norman explained.

"Only that one move can make Ghost Pokemon vulnerable?" Luna questioned.

"Right. It helps since Ghost-Types are partially in this dimension. They can ignore many things. Such as solid objects, most physical effects, gravity, mol-"

"Did you say gravity?!" Luna exclaimed as she stood up from her seat.

"Uh-y-y-yes...?" Norman stuttered. "Well, the Pokemon move Gravity can affect them still. It's made up of Infinity Energy so it's a special kind of Gravity."

"Infinity Energy..." Luna looked down. "So, aside from the move, the natural form of gravity doesn't matter to them?"

"Not at all." Norma shrugged.

"So then how was it that Frillish was affected by the spell?" Luna thought to herself. "Unless..."

"After hearing what Norman told me, I wondered why Frillish was affected by her Gravity spell. I'm fairly certain that it doesn't have Infinity Energy in it." Luna said.

"That is odd. If Frillish were truly immune to her spell, it would be a great advantage and would benefit every Ghost-Type Pokemon if they went up against her." Cadence put her hoof on her chin.

"There's a clear answer to that. Empress Twilight has been stealing alicorn magic from a plethora of universes after all. It's not too farfetched to believe she gained a spell that negates a Ghost's physiology." Celestia explained.

"I suppose so." Luna nodded. "But, even if we get past her Gravity spell, we still have other spells to deal with. Who knows what else she can do."

"Hm. If Ghost-Type Pokemon are out of the question against the Gravity spell...then perhaps we either use Steel-Type Pokemon or gravity of our own. The Pokemon move Gravity exists. Any Pokemon that can use that move can be of great help. We can maybe counter her Gravity spell with an even greater one." Celestia theorized.

"That sounds possible. Steel-Type Pokemon are the most defensive type. I doubt even Gravity will stop them." Cadence nodded.

"As for other spells, with how many Pokemon moves there are, it's safe to say that we might have a move for every one of her own spells that she may unleash. Every move has its own use. Especially the ones that deal no damage. As for her guards, I've found the solution." Celestia put her hooves together.

"Their armour is made out of a metal known as aluminium. While it may be rare in our world, in the Pokemon World, it's quite common. It's used for those cars and trucks and even for trains. Breaking an armour made out of that material would be..." Cadence was about to finish her sentence.

"Not impossible." Celestia finished it for her, having a hopeful response. "Not with a Fire and Fighting-Type." She then used her magic to bring out a borrowed Pokedex for her strategy. "Unfortunately for Empress Twilight and her guards, the Pokemon will ignore all that durability. We can either melt or shatter the aluminium armour with whichever type. And as a bonus, the ships are made out of the same material, so we can sort that problem out as well."

"I say we use an army Talonflame to handle the ships. Not only can they gain an aerial advantage, but their flames should be strong enough." Luna suggested.

"As for the energy of the ship, we'll have as many Electric-Type Pokemon or Water-Types handle that. Electivire seemingly has the strongest electrical output of any Electric Pokemon. Minus the legends." Celestia showed off Electivire's dex entry.

"Electivire. The Thunderbolt Pokemon. In terms of electrical-energy output, Electivire is one of the best among all Electric Pokémon. It discharges high-voltage currents from its tails. The instant it presses the tips of its tails onto an opponent, it sends over 20,000 volts of electricity into the foe."

"Their ship won't be able to handle that much energy. One taste of that many volts and they'll power down." Celestia smiled.

"What about Ash's Pikachu? He seems to be greater than the average Pikachu." Cadence asked.

"Ash and Pikachu have already decided their own role in this. But, it's not a bad idea. Now. For Water-Types, we can use Blastoise."

"Blastoise. The Shellfish Pokemon. Blastoise has water spouts that protrude from its shell. The water spouts are very accurate. They can shoot bullets of water with enough accuracy to strike empty cans from a distance of over 160 feet. The jets of water it spouts from the rocket cannons on its shell can punch through thick steel."

"If our Fire and Fighting-Type plan doesn't work, Blastoise's water is an excellent backup. So, we're now clear that we have many options against the ship. But, it's not a guarantee. We'll need to work on our strategy further. I already have my guards doing so with Pokemon they've caught."

"Alright. We have options against the ship and guards. What else is there?" Cadence questioned.

"For now, we'll keep focusing on the ship and guards. But I suppose another problem are the gateways that will open here. They won't appear in just Canterlot. She aims to conquer this entire world after all." Celestia pondered. "Her numbers could be extravagant. She has already taken some of my own guards to her world so that she can convert them. They're probably serving her now."

"Her army size would be grandiose considering how many worlds she has visited..." Cadence trembled. "Even if we were to gather everyone from Equestria, her numbers could dwarf us with ease."

"Most likely." Celestia agreed, unfortunately. "But, strength in numbers isn't always a guaranteed victory. And we have our ways to little those numbers down. I've planned to have a chat with Queen Chrysalis. She herself agrees that she won't allow this world to be taken by Empress Twilight. Or even Ghetsis."

"And? The changelings are our only allies?" Luna asked.

"Not just them. Dragons, yaks, griffons and more. But perhaps the most surprising one was that the Pokemon, especially the wild and untamed ones are willing to assist in this." Celestia smiled. "Pikachu Highlands is just one major example."

"So then, we'll have Pokemon that have trainers and are wild on our side. Sounds like a wonderful advantage." Cadence nodded. "I'm sure the Sableye are the same. Despite their mischievous antics around the Crystal Empire, they mean well."

"Right." Celestia got off her seat. "We'll continue discussing plans further tomorrow. Queen Chrysalis, Prince Rutherford and other rulers will be joining us by then. Until now, we'll need to practice our strategies. I know my guards are already on it."

"My Pokemon and I will also work hard," Luna said. "Especially Darkrai."

"I just hope we can pull this off...Never been this nervous. Not even during the Royal Wedding." Cadence gulped.

"Hm. But...I do have one other option that could also give us our next advantage." Celestia had one last thing to say.

"Huh?" Both Luna and Cadence faced Celestia.

"We can gain allies from other universes."

Empress Twilight's world. Her Castle Ship. High up in the cosmos.

Out of every ship that she owns, the ship that resembled Canterlot Castle was her main one. A ship that not even Luna has entered yet. This is where she usually resides aside from other ships.

There, Empress Twilight was currently having her own strategy meeting as well. Or rather, she was about to have one that hasn't started yet.

She sat down at the same throne that Celestia in the other world sat in. Then again, it's the same castle but with some changes and a different feel.

The Empress of many universes was waiting for her own visitors. Ones that were also alicorns. There were certainly some parallels going on between this universe and the other. Next to Empress Twilight was her greatest student and apprentice, Luster Dawn and sitting on the table was a Master Ball given to the Empress by Team Plasma. This Master Ball held a certain Legendary Pokemon parallel to the one that Ghetsis currently has.

But aside from that, Empress Twilight looked at the door as she saw her guests enter the throne room. Four of them in total. Most were from different universes while the other was from this universe. And that other was Flurry Heart, of course.

"Oh, finally. Glad you could make it on time." Empress Twilight spoke as she looked at the ponies in front of them, calling out their names. "Daybreaker. Nightmare Rarity. Princess Starlight Glimmer. Oh and my little niece Princess Flurry Heart."

"H-Hello Auntie." Flurry Heart stuttered with a gentle wave.

"Refer to me as Empress."

"R-Right, Empress."

"Now then." Empress Twilight spoke to the other ponies as they sat around the table. "You all know why I've summoned you here. About our upcoming overtaking of the next Equestria."

"We've already discussed plans about overtaking it yesterday." Nightmare Rarity said. "Practically everything has been covered, darling. What else is there?"

"You can never be too safe, Rarity. Our plans need to be perfected. Even if we have them perfectly laid out." The Empress replied.

"We didn't need to do that with the other Equestria's we conquered. If anything, they were easy to deal with and we only needed a few days of planning, didn't we?" Starlight shrugged.

"They were." Empress Twilight nodded. "But, you all were given unique spells from other universes after all. So that made everything all the more easier, in all honesty. But, not sure I can say the same for the next Equestria."

"How come?" Nightmare Rarity asked.

"Isn't it obvious." The Empress used her magic to show a holographic projection of Pokemon. "It's those Pokemon. Out of all the Equestria's i've viewed, this one is by far the strongest one. Because of the existence of these mysterious creatures and how easily they can form bonds with ponies, dragons and other species, they'll prove to be a nigh-unstoppable force."

"Hmph. At the end of the day, they're just another batch of magical creatures." Daybreaker flailed her hoof. "We've already dealt with powerful forces before. What can something like a small electric mouse do?"

"More than you can imagine. These Pokemon are not to be underestimated. Even with all of the magic we've absorbed and various spells we've collected, the Pokemon can still easily match or even surpass us in power. That is why I've summoned you all here."

"There are how many of them exactly? That Colress human found 890 of them, correct?" Starlight questioned the Empress.

"For now. There are possibly more out there we haven't seen yet. And that worries me. But, there is no need to fret. Because of the information Colress has given me, despite their dangerous potential and how much of a threat they pose, I know the perfect spells to deal with every Pokemon there currently is. I can't say the same for all of you, however."

"Now that you put it into perspective..." Nightmare Rarity put her hoof on her chin.

"If we take the Pokemon away, Equestria will be defenceless." Starlight pondered.

"Very defenceless." The Empress smirked. "However, another thing is bothering me. The Celestia of that world has something known as a Boundless Cutie Mark. I'm still unaware of what it's capable of since I've never seen it in full action yet. That's another thing I'm looking out for. Flurry Heart. You haven't spoken yet. What is your say in this?"

"Oh." Flurry Heart scrunched her face. "Um...I don't know. Maybe we can just...you know...make friends with the next world. The Pokemon there seem so-"

"This again?" Daybreaker groaned. "Your soft child. We're not conquering to make friends-"

"Ah." Empress Twilight interrupted Flurry Heart. "Flurry Heart. I've already decided. I can't spread my friendship to that world. I originally thought of it but after seeing what they're capable of and how...connected they all are, it won't happen. But...the Pokemon, at least the wild ones, might be a different story."

"I'm just saying...it would be nice to have a world where everyone doesn't hate us..."

"Hate us?" The Empress laughed. "Oh, don't mind those universes, my little niece. There are other worlds where we can still make friends. Nothing to worry about.

"Okay..." The youngest alicorn pouted.

"Now. On the topic of Pokemon. I already have one on my side. I haven't yet shown you." The Empress faced the Master Ball.

"You have your own Pokemon?" Rarity's eyes widened.

"That's certainly some new good news." Starlight nodded.

"It is." The Empress lifted the Master Ball with her magic. "In this Poke Ball, resides a Pokemon powerful enough to further guarantee a flawless win over not just the next Equestria, but other universes as well. A Legendary Pokemon."

"Legendary?!" They all gasped.

"Mhm. I would stand back if I were you." Empress Twilight warned as all of her allies backed away. She then looked up, knowing that the Pokemon inside would be too big to fit in here. If it was sent out, the ceiling would break without a doubt. But, the Empress wasn't too worried. She could always just rebuild it.

So, once everypony cleared the way, she sent out the Pokemon residing in the Master Ball. It was none other than the Deep Black Pokemon, a member of the Tao Trio and the Pokemon of Ideals.

Zekrom.

The Deep Black Pokemon emerged and immediately crushed the ceiling above while also letting out a thunderous roar with its emitting electricity.

The entire castle had been eclipsed by its shadow as everypony inside could see Zekrom from outside. This was the first time it was being released in the castle. The Deep Black Pokemon spread its wings out as its tail was spinning.

The alicorns all looked up in absolute shock and fear of this Pokemon as their jaws dropped. The Empress wasn't bothered at all actually.

"This is Zekrom, ladies. The Deep Black Pokemon."

"A-A Dragon?!" Starlight gasped.

"Oh, most certainly. One of the most powerful Dragon-Type Pokemon there is, apparently. It used to be a part of the world's strongest Dragon Kyurem. The sheer power of Zekrom is unlike anything I have experienced."

"H-How so?" Daybreaker stuttered as she was getting nervous just looking at this thing.

"Well, there was one universe that put up heavy resistance against my control. So, in response, I had Zekrom destroy the entire planet."

"The entire planet?!" As if the allies couldn't be more surprised.

"Zekrom's lightning can scorch the Earth itself." The Empress stood in a bipedal position, raising her hooves. "When it comes to raw lightning power, no one is Zekrom's equal. And I have it under my possession. I do have to thank Team Plasma for giving me such a Pokemon."

"Y-You're going to use this Pokemon soon?" Flurry Heart stuttered.

"Oh, most certainly. After all, Zekrom follows my ideals. With its amazing power, any world can fall weak to our control. And if that world proves to be useless and shows restraint...then Zekrom's lightning is the perfect response to their planet."

"What horrifying power..." Daybreaker said to herself.

"Although...not sure I can say the same for this Equestria. Aside from the powerful Pokemon that reside there...if push comes to shove and I'm unable to control it, destroying it might be harder. Even for Zekrom's lightning. Due to the existence of Pokemon, that world has altered to fit the habitat of those creatures. Bigger, stronger and certainly more durable. But aside from that, everything else can still go according to plan." The Empress then returned Zekrom to its Poke Ball.

"You were keeping something that powerful at your disposal all this time?" Starlight asked.

"Yes. Don't worry. I convinced Team Plasma to give you your own." The Empress then used her magic to reveal some Ultra Balls hidden in her dress. "If you're going to go up against Pokemon, you'd best be prepared with your own. I hate to say it but I'm afraid Alicorn magic won't do against them."

"Hm." Daybreaker and the others received their Ultra Balls.

"Don't worry. Team Plasma has made it so that they follow your will. And a touch of magic is inside of it too. Bonding with them won't be an issue at all."

"Our own Pokemon?" Flurry Heart looked at the Ultra Ball.

"Now. We'll continue tomorrow. Right now, I still have a few more spells to master before the invasion. 6 of them. If I were any of you, I'd head home and see what your Pokemon are capable of. You still have those Pokedexes I lent you, right?"

"It won't be a problem." Nightmare Rarity bowed her head as she was the first to leave the room.

"Like I need one but...whatever." Daybreaker shrugged as she left next with Starlight following behind. The last to leave was Flurry Heart who was still the most nervous. And for good reason. The atmosphere isn't exactly the best at the moment. Both in a figurative sense and a literal sense in terms of space.

"I don't trust any of them..." Luster suddenly said with a concerning tone.

"I know you don't, Luster. It's always good to be on guard and cautious. After all, they have their own goals. Not sure about Flurry Heart though."

"I say we ditch them after all of this is over."

"Maybe. Maybe they'll all end up falling during the invasion probably. Well, maybe all except for Daybreaker. Even though we're from separate universes, she still sees me as a child and student. Ridiculous. Anyway. We only have 4 weeks until the invasion can begin. But, there's one last thing I may need to do, Luster."

"Yes?"

"I need you to do me a favour."

4 weeks remain. The invasion is closing in with both sides having their own preparations. There will be an inevitable struggle between protecting a world or conquering it as the journey continues.
